Default My 402 Build

Basics....

I have a 2006 A4 GTO.

Trickflow as cast 220cc
Yella Terra Rockers
7.500 pushrods
VRX3 Cam (226/228 585/588 114)
Performabuilt Level 2 Tranny
3.91 gears
Ported Fast92
Ported TB
Kooks LTs
Magnaflow Catback
Vig 2800 stall
Volant CAI

I'm gonna use this as my official "build" thread. I'll post questions and results as well as build progress in this thread. Here we go.
(For those that care) lol.

I've been researching like crazy. So many options and questions to ask. I've found some answers but still have many.

Question 1 -

I can't decide where to get the block. Prices range from 4k-5k for a forged shortblock. So far I have gotten quotes from LME, HKE, CC Performance, Vengeance Racing, Texas Speed and have looked at SLPONLINE. Have I missed anyone?

Bottom line, the shortblocks are expensive. So I'm having a hard time dishing out a ton of money to any of these guys without a warranty or warm and fuzzy that I'll get what I order and 100% compatible with what I have. Not looking to sell my right arm for a block. I will stay NA and just want a 402 that will be reliable and not smoke or burn oil. Any suggestions?

Question 2 -

What size injectors should I get and where is the best place to get them? Seems they are pretty expensive!

Question 3 -

Have no idea what size cam to get. I'm currently considering the VRX5 (236/238 600ish lift on a 113). I have had good luck with the VRX3 and it has ran well and driven well. I like the more conservative approach on the cam. However, I'm thinking this cam is too small for the 402. Suggestions?

I believe most 402/408 guys are running 42lb injectors. The cheapest I see are ford motorsports for near 300 on ebay and other places.

They Ford injectors or is that just the name of the company? I've heard people say they are running Ford injectors. That's why I ask. I'm looking for drop-in LS2 style injectors.

They're made by ford but work for our cars, they're rated at 42lb but on our cars they run at 48lbs.

"They're ev1 connectors which work for ls1/6's but not sure if they work for ls2's. You'll probably need a connector to make it work. otherwise you can get some other brands offered by the sponsors.

It is a Ford injector.

You can get flow matched for about $365 from Nasty perfromance, this is what I would do. Enough can't be said for a set of flow matched injectors.

Does it really take 4-6 weeks to get a shortblock from HKE?
