I see this thread was made in 2009. I found it via google while looking up LY5, while trying to research to find out if these ebay gen IV block can be used in vehicle that has a damaged gen III 5.3L block.

We have a Gen III 5.3L project and need a block and from those pictures the bores look massive thick in comparison to the 5.3L we have.

I just dont know what it takes in work or parts to use my gen III internals/electronics in that gen IV block.

If you need a gen III block then get a gen III Block. There cheap.

GenIV has different sensor locations. You have to run Harness extensions to make a GenIV Block work.

Knock sensor are moved to the side of the block instead of the Valley cover.
Cam Sensor pick up is off the front of the Cam sprocket at the front cover instead of the rear of the cam in the back of the block.
