LQ9 iron 408, AFR 225s, Pat G cam, YT ultralites, AFR dual springs. I shifted at 6500 the only time out thus far with the motor, limiter is at 6700 right now. This season I'll have the limiter at 7000, not sure where we'll be shifting at with the nitrous.

Both engines my 454 and the 429 have gone to 9,000 with no issues I tend to shift at at 8600. All the best **** you can get Jesel valve train, 937 lifters, 7/16 push rods etc...

9K? That really seems excessive. Where does your HP peak?

My question was not to challenge the validity of his statement, but more directed at obtaining additional information. I have never been exposed to an LS engine that could survive 9,000 RPM’s. This demonstrates my lack of experience more than me calling him a liar. I'd sure like to learn a lot more about his setup though. I understand that the 454 block is much more solid. But there is a lot more to being able to run 9K than just a having solid shortblock.

The Block really dosn't play into this at all. It's all about the valve train. That is why we use 937 lifters, 7/16 push rod and the jesel pro series rockers. and a custom oiling system.

We also found issues with the crank flexing at the high rpms. A Sonny Bryant Crank solved those issues.

Feel free to stop by my trailer any time I will show you a few 9000 rpm logs

Thumbs up

I, for one, would LOVE to hear your monster screaming down the track and/or on the dyno at 9 grand

My 416ci engine is not installed yet, but the ecm has been tuned for 6000 rpm limit more to be safe on the LS2 injectors. Chose the top end more to minimise the risk to of badly running in the shortblock than out right performance.

Plan is to do a H/C/I swap later on that would take the available power past 7k.

I guess I should vote too

I have the same limiter I had on my 346, 7500 rpm's.

At WOT I shift at ~7K rpm's.

I've got PRC .660 lift dual valve springs and complimentary valve train with LS7 Lifters in my TSP forged aluminum 402 with all the ARP internal goodies.

Default 454 cu in LS7

Darton resleaved LS7 block
Katech rebushed Ti rods
Katech 4.185 pistons ( lighter than stock)
Callies custom LS7 4.125 crank
410+ CFM LS7 heads

limiter set at 7,200rpm, usually shift around 7K unless I'm on the road course and the oil temps are starting to climb, then I short shift 6-6,500rpm. Dyno peaks at 6,800 w/ this cam.

600 +/-RWHP, so 700 at the crank.

Katech claims they are good for up to 900 or so, I won't be going that high. I have a hard enough time keeping it pointed straight on the road coarse now.

OK, now for a point of correction.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS RPM'S

Revolutions are measured per minute, not minutes. The official term is how many revolutions an engine can turn per MINUTE.

So it is RPM.

Do not listen to Larry Mac on NASCAR as he gets this wrong EVERY week.

End of class.

Now I have a 454LSX and it turns 7,200 RPM without a hitch. It can rev higher, but it is a street car and I want long engine life.

My motor is far from making 900 N/A. I've just been told that the stock Ti rods once rebushed can take that much hp. above and beyonfd that they rec: aftermarket rods, callies foe example.

For me andmy use ( road racing w/ some trips to the 1/4 mile track) I was looking for light weight rotating assembly. This 454 cu in motor spins FAR faster than a stock bottom end 427 LS7.
