LS3, "9 and a half" engines???

LS3, "9 and a half" engines??? This may be a strange one, but I have heard there is an LS3 here in Australia that has the AFM stuff. Apparently it has the designation of "9 and a half" and all LS3's with this "9 and a half" or later have the AFM stuff.
I really want the non-AFM LS3 so I don't have to change the lifters for a cam swap..... but then some people say they put cams in without changing the lifters on AFM engines???
Can I just change the cam without changing the lifters on an AFM engine??? I am looking to put in a super torquey cam, 218/226 on 109 LSA with around .560 lift, XE lobes to keep it simple and noise free....
Can anyone help with this???
