Default LS3, "9 and a half" engines???

This may be a strange one, but I have heard there is an LS3 here in Australia that has the AFM stuff. Apparently it has the designation of "9 and a half" and all LS3's with this "9 and a half" or later have the AFM stuff.

I really want the non-AFM LS3 so I don't have to change the lifters for a cam swap..... but then some people say they put cams in without changing the lifters on AFM engines???

Can I just change the cam without changing the lifters on an AFM engine??? I am looking to put in a super torquey cam, 218/226 on 109 LSA with around .560 lift, XE lobes to keep it simple and noise free....

Can anyone help with this???

AFM lifters cant take over .500" lift. They will still open when commanded to deactivate.

Get a non AFM engine.
