The heads (317) are also the same on the two engines, the pistons are the only difference, pull the heads. If the pistons are flat you have a LQ9, basically iron block LS2, and if they are dished you have a LQ4. Some people are going to chime in that the LQ9 has stronger rods, that is not true, GM made a design change from fixed pin to floating pin design and the LQ9 did get it first I believe bu that was a attempt to stop piston slap.
