Default LS7 Lifter question

will LS7 lifters work on a 2002 tahoe 5.3L they just happn to be cheaper and i'm gonna guess better than the factory ones ??? any info ???

Same part as the stock ones. They all share the same part number.

Supposedly, the preload is different according to some sources on here....

Go ask for one at the dealer. Ask for a LS1 see what you get. Ask for a LS3, LQ4, LQ9, and so on. Same replacement part number.

I'm not disagreeing with anyone but I heard that the Ls7 lifter had a different part number and I was cautioned to make sure the dealership was selling me the new Ls7 lifter and not the old style Ls1.

Again, I'm not trying to argue but perhaps you should check into it further.

i know LS7 lifters are cheaper from the speed shops than the replacments from GM for the 5.3L by 20$

The LS7 lifters control oil to the valvetrain differently to the regular lifters. Less oil gets up top at higher rpm.

They also have tighter clearances plunger to lifter body, peened roller shaft retention vs a circlip.

External dimensions are the same, but........

Downside is that the pushrod length/preload needs to be checked as the pushrod cup/seat is about 0.030-0.040" deeper. Probably no big deal if the factory setup is running about mid stroke on the plunger.
