Default please help choose ls2 cam..

hey everyone got a 05 gto 6speed with the lovely ls2. going to cam her out and since im a noob to the ls2 please dont make fun of me lol. im used to the ls1's and assuming for changing out the cam on the ls2 is basiclly the same process? and mostly same parts required? cam, springs, seals, pushrods, timing cover gasket, waterpump gasket, new crankbolt and how about the chain and pump?? i know on the ls1 id always swap to a ls2 chain but do i reuse the ls2 chain on the goat? and how about the oil pump. replace??. also on the ls1 the best stocker intake was the ls6 how about the ls2, is this intake good enough? now that i got those off my head back to the cam. is choosing a cam for the ls2 the same as a ls1? i mean would a cam for a ls1 be the same for the ls2? on a ls1 a big cam that didnt need to have the pistons touched was a ms4 is a ms4 big for this or can i squeeze a lil bigger? i dont want to go that big but curious if i can use those cams on this? sorry for any stupid questions just trying to make sure. thanks

John

BTW, dont care about smog just want a cam thats going to have good mid power and that can tell its cam'd but dont want to have the ms4 effect.lol

The MS camshafts are probably a little bit big for the weight with stock gearing. Honestly I'd look to something like the Torquer 3 camshaft. We also have a little bit smaller camshaft coming out pretty soon that makes really great power across the board. That being said either the MS4 or the Torquer 3 can be tuned to drive very well especially in a LS2 computer car. The LS2 computer is good at handling camshafts!!

Perfect a T3 is just what I was thinking. And all the basic camkit products and ls6 pump will fit. When's the new cam come out? Just might wait for that if it's soon enough. Thanks

I went with a Lunati 222/228 along with Comp 1.85's rockers arms back in 06.
Power is good peak 410 rwhp and 400 rwtq sae adjusted.
Great drive ability, and she sound's like she's cam'd (that could be due to the headers and exhaust that I have on her as well).

Dyno graph from 06

I'm currently contemplating getting a fast 92 to see how much I will gain.

If you have not purchased a Cold air kit, then I would suggest looking at the Vararam for the 05/06 GTO's. The price that they are currently at is within the same range as the K&N and Volants. And it seems to have favorable results over both.

I'm kinda in one of those thought processes right now... Get a fast 92, plus a Vararam, plus LS7 clutch, & a retune. After install I'm probably going to be over 2k on this one and money is tight right now.

Not a bad cam and looks to get good power but a lil to small for me. Thanks for the reply. So the stock ls2 intakes aren't good? I got a homemade fernco cold air.

Currently I'm averaging between 21 to 23 highway (I can't keep my foot out of the gas enough to get it higher).

Im looking for a cam for a LS2 Vette too, looking for 480whp or better without my spray. I have most of the boltons. I hear nitrous cars like big lift and med Duration. I was thinking 114 lsa 600 606 lift with 232/238 dur what do you think? I didnt want to go crazy on duration because I like my compression/and drivability easier to tune too! any suggestions? tuners step in

228/234 112 .600+ this a great cam with little to no low end loss for the heavier GTO I have seen from 450 to 470 RWHP depending on supporting mods Headers and such...

I am about to pull the triger on my 06 vette.

ms4, torquer v.2, or g5X3. are what i have looked at.

I daily drive it. but I alos came from a daily driven 2000 trans am, with a MTI X1, 4.11 9", with a detroit locker.

what you guys think?

supporting mods, American racing headers (big ones 1 7/8th), full exhaust, ported ls2 intake, and prtted throttle body, blackwing.
and gomer is my tuner.

Call comp and order this custom spec
230 intake on xfi lobe 612 lift
234 exhaust on xer lobe 598 lift
114+2 degrees advance Lsa

Same cam makes 500 rhp in Ls3's , one guy put it in his ls2 gto and made 440rwhp and 410 trq. Then added a fast and made 460rwhp.
