+1 IMHO part of the allure of the LS series engines is to be able to make power like the Gen 1 bigblock with less cubes and less weight. If you go iron you'll only pickup about 80 to 100 pounds which equals about .10 in the 1/4, but I would rather have the aluminum if you aren't going to be a hardcore dragracer, shooting big shots on 2 or 3 stages.

In NC the guys at RPM used a LS7 block in their nitrous racecar for a couple of seasons with no problem, and now their upgrading to a world warhawk block which is also aluminum.

Im gonna say 408 since youll be spraying & then pick a N/A cam that will also work well with spray. If you were staying all motor, then go with the 418. The difference of 10 cubes isnt much at all, so I would go with a 427 ls3 if I was going N/A.

Im going to throw a curve ball into this conversation...

You can have a 418 with an iron block also... by going with a longer stroke.

My 418 is a 4.03" bore iron block, with a 4.10" crank.

FWIW: The extra bore on the LS3/L92 block unshrouds the exhaust valve a little more on the L92/LS3 heads.

Yep but we don't recommend a power add with it. We offer that as well but it seems most guys want to spray so he 4" stroke stuff is more desirable

It will do just fine for spray. The motor was planned with the intent to spray 300-350hp of nitrous.

Not to name drop or nut hug... but Tony Bischof is the one who specd it out... and if you know who that is, you know he has more than enough experience to be able to determine that.

LOL, yea and we see people spray and boost big amounts on bigger strokes, its just not something we advise doing with our customers. I didn't say it couldn't be done.

What about a small shot like a 150?

Quoted straight from the TSP website so a 150 shot would be right on the borderline but it seems safe according to TSP.

The only thing about power adders is that they get addictive and once you shoot the 150 and get to say a 10.17, you know your going to want to hit it with 200 to put you into the 9's.

How good are those 418 aluminum blocks at handling boost. Has anyone blown one with a SC like a D1SC? I'm just wondering what the upper limits of LS3 blocks are.
