Default rebuilding ls2 need advice please!!!

well i bought a ls2 with some piston slap and im looking to rebuild it. Can i get oversize pistons for it. If so how much can i go up to on the bore. Please if someone knows a good place to find a deal on these pistons please state it.

You can hone them out 5-10 ths. Piston slap is the skirt of the piston rocking at the bottom of the bore. Is the engine running? Are you sure its piston slap. You need to look at the cyl bores and see if they are damaged, if not you hone them to a new set of rings. The early 98 and 99's had noise issues with the pistons when cold. I thought GM took care of this problem in the later models.

4.005 should do it , its a shelf piston for Wiseco.

The later pistons had teflon coated sides.

mate Im embarking on the same deal although mine was declared stuffed from water damage.

My machine shop said mine in particular has perfect sleeves, meaning were all symetrical and seated correct. Also has given the thumbs up to taking themout to .15 over safely if wanted to.

Either way if you spec what pistons you want just get them made, if you on a budget stick to bore sizes that are an off the shelf item.

well im going to measure the bore today. what size of pistons do they offer after stock pistons size.
i measure one but it shows 4.002 bore but im making sure tommorow

piston 7 and 5 could be moved pretty freely which was probably where the piston slap was coming from. The walls look great little scratch nothing bad at all. on the number 7 piston there a little tiny chuck missing from the piston could of been from detination but nothing looks damaged at all.

the chunk was a ringland which is what would of been causing the noise. As for the movement in the pistons were the rings intact?

Most of the sponsors should have a product range on their sites. Personally I have dealt with Fraser @ speedinc a few times and am impressed with his service, and more imprtantly being in Australia pricing over in the US even with the $$$ conversion is better than buying from local suplliers.

rings intact no scaring lucky i guess. so what the limit on the bore size a stock ls1 block can do too. meaning how many thousands over it ok. do you know if i can the stock rod length on the forged pistons.

Many piston manufacturers have a 4.005" shelf piston for LS2 engines. I don't know that you can use a stock rod with them, though. I think they are almost all for a .927" pin while the stock rod has a .944" pin. You can always go with a SCAT steel rod for a few hundred if need be. You have several sponsors close by, such as HKE and LME. Try giving them a call and get their recommendations.

My LS2 is bored .030" over and runs perfect for over 3 years with nitrous. With Ross Pistions. 4.030" .944 pins & 6.125" Eagle rods. You can call Ross and they will cut you a set of pistions that will fit your needs
