ls1 dipstick is in the pan, ls3 is in the block.

I dropped an LS3 into my 05 GTO. I used the LS2 pan and plugged the LS3 dipstick hold. Still using the LS2 dipstick in the pan.

Why are you trying to put an ls1 dipstick in an LS3?

thanks for the reply, man.
no, i'm not trying to put an LS1 dipstick into an LS3, i'm trying to do the same thing you did.........that is, the 416 is ready to go into the '04 GTO......lol.

i was looking at the block, and i was like........wtf is this hole for?

so i can use the GTO oil pan and dipstick.......that's good.

what did you plug the hole with?

The hole was tapped and a bolt was put in.

Did you use a new crank? the GTO has a different relucter wheel on the crank then the newer LS2 and LS3 engines. If you are using your old crank or a 24x reluctor wheel you should be good. otherwise you need a new ECU. also, i think the knock sensors are different from the LS1 to the LS2/LS3.

Just some stuff to think about

I know the LS2 had the stick in the pan. I thought the LS1 had it in the pan too, i could be wrong though.

Your GTO oilpan has the hole for the dip stick on it ls1 or ls2.If you are installing a ls3 block into your into your 04 gto,you can just use your oilpan and dip stick tube.

dipstick/windage tray/pickup/tube are all dependent upon the PAN being used, not the block. FYI quite a few LS2 blocks are undrilled just because of the GTO having the hole in the pan instead of on the pan rail. also the LS7 is undrilled, which is usually set up for a dry sump....so if you set it up for wet sump, the hole has to be drilled....
