I keep reading that you need to swap out the DOD lifters in an L92 for non DOD lifters but I have yet to hear the reasoning behind it. I've been searching without any luck, is there anyone that can fill me in?
I'm building a pretty much stock L92 with an L76 intake and a Mast Motorsports VVT cam for a rock crawler/racer.
Thanks!

l92/l76 lifters for the deactivateable (ha!) cylinders are heavier and more complicated. In fact, there are differing profiles for these lifters as compared to the lifters at cylinders that are not deactivated, due to differing compliance. the camshafts have smaller less aggressive profiles and lower rev limits due to the additional weight and complexity. If an aftermarket cam design is desired, with faster ramp rates, a lighter lifter is a necessity.

An as ScooterK points out, all the valve train load rests on two itty bitty pins which have been reported to shear on stock engines. GM proves durability on these in a standard engine, but add cam and-or springs, and race it, then you are pushing your risks way up.
Would you agree its a good idea to change them?

DOD lifters have alot more to them. they dont like spring pressure of high lifts or high rpms...its recommended you change them when going to a bigger camshaft of soemhting with a lift over 600
