In a few weeks (after you have spent some time with the manual) can you do me a favor and write a little review or rating on amazon.com? I'll update my threads when it is available on amazon anyway, hopefully they keep the intro pricing.
Will do...I've already read it cover to back once. I'll be reviewing it this week. I like it better than the Cartech book (which was still a good book), in many ways.
Good work!

Jon (jmX) sure did a great job on LS1howto.com, it is the online go-to place for installs. I would like to do some car-specific install-only books later on. Let me know via PM or in this thread what you think when it arrives.

Thanks!

I'm glad I can help you score points and help to put an LS engine together. Those two things don't usually go together well! Just don't show her the speed shop parts parts receipts.

I'll be ordering one. I have most of the books that have come out about LSx stuff. I have an older one that has Rob Raimer as a contributing source (interesting). I like these sorts of things and enjoy reading them. I'd kind of like to get my foot into automotive writing, but don't think I have enough direct knowledge.

No hard feelings at all. I understand how difficult it could be.

I'm sure you're ecstatic about the book!

I'm going to have to pick this thing up!

Well I think Amazon ran out for a few days (showing Oct 3rd as next shipment date). A couple friends received theirs from Amazon this week so I'll assume all backorders were filled first. Anyone going to the LSX Race in a few weeks? I might bring a few copies if I can get them in time, I'll do my best to get Amazon pricing on a handful of them.

Mostly just a lurker over here but I saw this and ordered my copy yesterday from Amazon. Hopefully this will help me if I decide to tackle a cam swap. Dont know if I could do this by myself. I already did my longtubes and blower. Maybe I will grow some and tear into the motor.

If you did longtubes and a blower, the cam swap shouldn't be too much harder to tackle. Depending on the car, the valvesprings could be the hardest part, or the easiest! Once you get interfering parts removed and can get good access to the engine itself its not too bad to work on, even in the car. I have some random pictures I can upload someday of all the installs on an F-body.

What type of vehicle do you own?

I have a 2006 GTO. I just want to screw something up but I do want more ponies to the wheels. Current setup up on 6lbs of boost is putting down 493/471. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Just placed an order. I have some Cartech LS books, but this looks more promising.

Ahh, GTO's are easy for the valvespring swap, the very last spring on either side is the hardest - but it usually takes me about 45 minutes for a complete GTO valvespring swap, the F-body springs to compare; take about 30 minutes longer! Other than whatever extra time the blower itself adds, they are pretty easy cars to work on, the GTO headers on the other hand, complete PITA - well at least the drivers side.

I would recommend setting up a shop to discharge and recharge your A/C, that way you can just unbolt the lines and remove the A/C condensor out of the way completely for the camshaft itself. I've moved them enough before without recovering the refrigerant but it is a little harder to work around.

The LS2 is actually not too bad of a camshaft for boost - you also don't want or need to go too crazy with blower cams, but something in the mid 22x's for intake duration and lower 23x's for exhaust should do well on a wide LSA (115ish) for something that you see a good gain from, many sponsors can get you into an ideal camshaft for what you want. You may notice a drop in boost PSI, but this is due to less restriction in the engine, and more air into the cylinders - if you want more boost, pulley swap time.
