Default VVT cam?

Doing a swap on my 99 obs tahoe 2 dr. I have an LY6 with the VVT. My question is what cam should I go with? I'm keeping the VVT.

The truck is my daily driver. Only mods to engine will be cam and a good tune.

Thanks!

Nobody? I tried doing a search an all that comes up is suggestions on removing the VVT.

My question now is what do yall think about the mast vvt cams? My buddy is recommending to keep the vvt and use a mast cam and their controller.

What are you guys opinions on this?

I would do that IF*** the $$$ was there. $3000.00 is alot to swallow. I too just got a LY6. I will keep it stock except for a LS3 intake. Hopefully Comp cams will roll out there VVT cams soon and someone will modify the stock ECM.

I am sure more Co.s will jump into the VVt arena soon. Or al least I hope. LOL

The Mast cam/spring package is like 700 and they qouted me 1750 on the harness and pcm to run the engine as well as the 6l80 tranny. I didn't think it was all that bad moneywise. Of course I've spent 10x that on parts for my chevelle so it didn't sound like much to me.

Really? Maybe i'm missing sumthing in their package. That does sound like alot for a cam and ecm package, but they've also put in all the R&D to get the package right and if it's plug and play like they say then it'd be money well spent to me.

I agree. Its just a matter of having the money. I like of buying "packages" that all work together. I don't believe there are any "tuners" near me.

There are lots of good cam choices for VVT motors. You just need to ask the right people who won't rape you. With VVT, you don't need lots of intake duration as the cam phasing will dramatically broaden your torque curve. Very cool stuff.

just go grab a comp xfi cam, some good springs, matching pushrods and be done with it. Don't spend a bunch of money if you dont have to. I love my LY6.. I am extremely glad I chose it over a LS1 or even LS2. My brother did my wiring for my LY6 swap into my Firebird and all my gauges work; just need to address a few calibration issues.

One thing to bear in mind.... the LY6 is a 9.6:1 compression motor with good, forged rods (yes i know theyre powder metal and no i dont care, theyre forged and theyre strong)....

hopefully you can connect the dots on where I'm going with this.... (super/turbocharger).

I do plan on adding a blower next year after I'm done with the swap.
As far as the harness and ecm what did you use?

I don't know why it slipped my mind to use a stock ecm. You could use EFI live or other comparable tuner to tune the e38. I don't have anyone that can build me a harness but i'm sure 1 of the sponsors could.

Did you have to call comp about the vvt cam? I can't find any on their website.

Thanks, Wil

Here ya go..... They do two cams. Simple and cheap. Camshaft, 918 springs, and phaser limiter kit. 70hp gain, no torque loss! Cam is 222/236 .560/.570 (ish) on a 114
