What block did you use for a 4.2 bore?

There are a number of builders on this forum that have done long lasting 454 standard deck LS engines (including GM). "Rod ratio" is never more important has having proper minimum ring land thickness for a given application. The main thing is to have a properly designed piston and good sleeve length. I agree that cubes aren't everything, but I'd pick more than less if N20/Boost isn't in the equation....if for nothing less than for valvetrain stability.

Does gm sell a short block? I think I might go with a 4.185 inch bore 4.00 stroke. No nitrous or blower. Im wanting to go with ported l92s or ls7 for heads. Ive also thought about calling erl I have a ls2 block sitting here.

Is there a problem going with a 4.25 bore on the LSX block? I'd like to keep the stroke as short as possible.

We've built 4.200" bore LSx blocks, but that's about as far as I've seen people running. 4.200 bore 4.100 stroke builds a 454. I'm putting my 454 LS7 together starting tomorrow. I'll post pics for you guys. I have all the components in stock to build a LSx 454 and access to a block someone bought & then decided not to use. If you want a quote on a assembled short-block I'd be happy to put one together for you, I bet we can make you one at a pretty good price!

Thanks Jason,

I've called TSP several times for cam questions and intake, appreciate the help and knowledge. Looking to order a cam, heads and possibly an intake from TSP. i'll follow your lead and go from there. i,m still installing the 4 link so i have 6 months before i need engine hardware.

For some reason i thought i saw someone boring these out to 4.25" i could've been mistaken.


Please post pictures and data, i'll follow your lead.

The bore spacing on these blocks is too low to go 4.250. plenty of material on the major and minor thrust -but none in between. Had a guy with an aftermarket sbc START at 4.250 because he read their ad and it didn't make it off the dyno. HUGE BLACK SCORE in the siamese area all the way up and down. He was screwed...new block and pistons necessary...started at 4.185 next time around

So what is the max bore in GM 454 LSX then? I took one damaged with 4.185 bore with minor cylinder wall scratches... How far can I hone it (N/A, not boost, no nitrous)?
4.25 - impossible?
