Min PTV clearance??

Default Min PTV clearance??

ok guys my cam and intake should be in early next week fo my lq4/ls3 head build, i want to have the heads milled to bump comp as much as possible but i need to check PTV to figure out how much i can take off the heads. so how much ptv should i looking for to be safe at mock up?? thanks

.080" intake / .100" exhaust with steel connecting rods is considered text book

With aluminum in would obviously increase, but how about titanium?

Only changes because of rod stretch. Titanium doesnt stretch

I think he means that the aluminum block expands.
I agree that .080/.100 are a standard. Keep in mind that is a minimum, I run a little more for safety in road racing. You are not going to know when your valve springs get weak and you rev too high. When the piston kisses the valve, it's not like your first high school kiss, it's more like kissing a Mack truck at speed. You are not going to feel good about it afterwards.

^ I was talking about rod material. Just a 3 am question that I didn't think out all the way before I posted it. Titanium is more brittle than steel, but how does it compare in elasticity?

thanks guys! thats what i was looking for! hopefully i can mock up the engine next week and mill the heads!

Titanium isnt more brittle than steel it has less heat resistance and has a higher tensile strength. Kinda like cast iron has a VERY high heat resistance but its tensile strength is almost nothing.
