Are coated pistons and bearings suggested and preferred. LS2 with maggie SC looking for 600-650 hp.

we've run up to 1000hp without coated parts over a full season of racing with some minor scuffing on the skirts, coating its a suggestion, but not required.

We normally have pistons skirts coated when we do a freshen up job.

I've had problems

Skip the coatings and get on with your build

It's not the coatings, it's usually the prep. You can coat it yourself, just be sure to sandblast the surface first for adherence, and get the best quality coatings.

Piston Coatings are designed to:

• Prevents cold start piston seizures
• Friction reduction causing reduced temperatures
• Quiets piston noise or rattle
• Increases piston and cylinder bore life
• Increased fuel efficiency
• Smoother running engines = Increased power and Longer life

I would shy against doing it yourself unless you really know what you're doing. Getting the proper coverage will be a little ruff but the blasting part is what could really mess you up... BUT Thats just me personally

They are fine. Do homework. Katech is lighter, what I run now. You have to weigh them yourself really, the weight specs are never right. And, yes you better know what you are doing with coatings, etc, true with anything.
