Max bore is not the way to go. You should go the minimum bore needed to clean up the cylinders.

Your block is like a cat, it has a few lives. If you bore it too the max right away, you spend them all at once.

Plus the incremental bore sizes you can go wont make any real power difference.

I will disagree with you there. The change from 4.00" bore to 4.03, 4.06, 4.07 (mine), etc alows you to run much better heads with bigger valves that otherwise would shroud the intake valve or just not fit on the 4" bore.

If you are looking for a stock replacement and don't plan to push it then yes, get just the minimal overbore to clean it up. Since you said max and still be safe I guess you are not looking for a stock replacement. Fill the water jackets up to the water pump port with Hard Blok and bore it to 4.07" .

i was looking into just a .030" over but i thought i was gonna be able to get a better price on pistons for a .060" over i just want to make sure that was safe and wasnt pushing the limits but it sounds like that would be safe

For naturally aspirated, 4.06" bore is fine.

For nitrous or forced induction, 4.03" bore is max.
