Default Decent L92 setup

I have a 2002 Camaro SS. My car is in the shop right now awaiting a L92 with a 240/240 Cam, Full Exhaust with Headers. Tune and 4.10 gears. I was wondering what I should be looking at power wise?

Why such a large cam with a single pattern?

Honestly I left it up to the shop to choose a solid cam for me. I told them my car would be daily driven and I was looking for a viscous idle with some solid power accross the board. When I heard some of the specs on the cam it seemed as it was a bit big to be daily driven however I thought I would go ahead and trust them. As for single pattern I am somewhat lost because I lack knowledge in that area I am guessing. They told me the cam was a double pattern.

Is this going into a stock L92 or are they aftermarket pistons with large valve reliefs?

Yes, that cam with a stock engine is too much. Did you have them check piston to valve clearance? I would turn the engine over by hand first to see what happens. Would hate to see anything be broken bent by not at least doing that.

I will not ask any names or anything, but you may hint to them to turn the engine over and also check clearances if they can.

What year model L92 is it do you know?

Don't have the paperwork with me atm. Once I get off work I will try to find it. They are gonna drive it once they get done so if they blow anything they can feel free to hook me up with some extremely nice internals.

Ok, I was just checking because now some of them have the DOD now. And that severely limits the lift you can go on them. That is why I ask.

Correct yes. I hope it turns out well. From what we have seen, that is a little too much duration on a stock L92 for the intake side at least.

Ok thanks for the information. What would you say the biggest size you would run and not be worried about issues?

No offense but the car is going to be a dog with that setup. Totally wrong cam. I wonder if the shop has done any L92 setups before. The cam in my 427 is smaller than that and the cam I had in my 403 L92 engine was MUCH smaller than that.

There, someone had to say it.

Ok after hearing what all was said I called the shop and was incorrect about what cam he was going with in the first place. He said it is a 238/240 and that it is on the big side but runs extremely solid. Is this true or an incorrect statement from him .

Cam specs still seem a little off for the square port heads. They like a bit of split between the intake and exhaust durations.

Some good examples being:
219/236
224/236
225/230
229/236
231/236

Geoff@ Eps recommended for me to use his 230/246 cam in my stock cube l92 motor. You might want to check into getting a different cam before you put everything together to put the motor back in your car.
