Default 416 LS3 complete

Finished up my 416 build a few weeks ago! Man! does it have more power than my old head/cam ls1 setup! I love it. I took my L92/LS3 heads up to TEA to have them done, picked them up about a week later, they looked great, and flowed great. The bottom end is callies compstar with wiesco -3cc pistons. I ended up going with tsp 1 7/8 headers with there off road y pipe. as well as a tsp 100mm maf to go with my fast 102/102 setup. and Pat G seems to have speced a killer cam. compression ratio ended up being 11.32:1. i have my ve and maf all in line via my lc1 and hp tuners. only problem im having is i get a misfire SES very now and then. im running ngk tr55's and think i might need to go colder to a tr6 maybe, anyone got any input on the plugs? or i think it might be the fact im running the ls3 coil packs which require less dwell than the old ls1's but i didnt relize that until i was digging into my tune trying to figure out the misfire, hoping i didnt burn the ls3 coils up by running ls1 dwell times on them.

oh and i dont know if theres anyone out there who has put a ls3 in a f-body with the fast 102 but man there is like less than a half inch of clearance between the top of the intake and the cowl. i put poly motor mounts on during my install so maybe it put the intake closer to the cowl also. and does anyone know of a strut tower bar that will fit with the fast 102?

Looking forward to seeing your final numbers. I've ordered most of the parts for my 416, similar to yours so far. About what size cam did you go with? How do you like your lid/maf combo? how's the lid fitment?

comp ground the cam out 239/247 .624/.624 114+2. it idles great! very streetable cam and a ton of low end torque. my old cam in my ls1 was 236/236 .590/.590 112 and i had so much trouble getting that engine to idle and drive well. but i think the 114 split helps the drivablity alot. The lid and maf are nice they mate together well. i didnt realize tsp includes a 4" coupler with there 100mm maf. The 102mm T/b sits so close to the maf that you dont need a very long coupler at all. i think the supplied tsp coupler is about 4 inches long but it could use another inch on it. i did get it all clamped together though, oh and be sure to tighten the bolts that hold the actual maf sensor into the billet adapter mine where pretty loose outta the box. i have noticed the ftp lid does rub alittle more than the slp lid. i have a superhawk hood though so it could be a different case with a ws6 hood. but all and all im happy with the lid and maf although i think id like to order a 4" diameter 45 degree coupler from siliconeintakes.com so the coupler would sit on the t/b alittle further.

oh and another note someone might have some info on. i ordered a 05 ls2 gto cam sensor from gm which i thought was suppose to be black? but it was tan like the ls3 cam sensor. i think it might be causing problems on start up. if i just try to turn the key and start the car it doesnt seem to want to start. but if i give it a quick bump with the key so it barely turns over and then atempt to start it, it starts right up. iv done a crank relearn and i still have to give the key a quick bump and then start it up.

235/243 .625 113 - 108 ICL in my 416. I am very happy with it.

Lots of power up top is what I like. Your cam should drive about the same.

Currently running TR6s in my stroker. 11.56:1

I am also hunting down a mis under load only.

I don't get any codes from my misfiring. I am going to try TR55s.

Lemme know what you find out.

That is a good question about the strut tower brace - I would also like to know this. I assume you had one before the 102 was added? I wonder if the strut tower brace could be shimmed to gain the needed clearance??

yeah i had a slp strut bar with a fast 90/90 and it barely cleared. the 102 doesnt have a chance of clearing. i would real like to figure out a way to get it back on there somehow

Could it be shimmed with a proper sized washer? Do you think that would be an option or do you need to gain a significant amount of space? On my current set-up my 90/90 is so close to my strut tower brace (spohn I think) you can't even see between them.

no i really dont think it could even be shimmed. there wouldnt be enough thread left to secure the nut or even get the nuts started for that matter

thanks for the info. I was unsure about the pair as I've heard bad stuff about aftermarket MAFs in the past..

Sounds like a similar set up to mine, I went from a LS3 ported intake with a Fast 90TB, OE water pump and a cathedral type cam, to a Pat G cam with FAST 102/102, 4"lid, Mezier, 4" LS7 MAF and I love it. Still need a dyno tune but for sure much stronger than my 498hp with a bad tune. Butt dyno says easy 20-30 more than before and maybe 10-15 more after final tune.

you and me both, lol. iv almost got 1,500 miles on the motor. i just gotta decide who im gonna have do the dyno tune. im living in battlecreek, mi. but im in mansfield, OH alot also. i was thinking about taking it either livernois or speed inc. who ever does the dyno tune shouldnt have to hard of a job iv got my ve and maf dialed in very well, im currently running a ls7 spark table. so i know the ve and maf can change alittle with spark changes but it shouldnt be to hard to tune. it idles great and the idle does not hang. (loving the fact that the idle doesnt hang) i never could get my old engine to stop hanging. im changing out my plugs with tr6's this weekend and i hope it will solve my random misfire. and i think i need to find diffrent plug wires. im running MSD's for a LS1 and i think they could use just alittle more slack in the wire, since the ls3 coils sit closer to the intake on the valve covers. i sold the stock l92 plug wires to a member on here, wishing i wouldnt have done that now. lol
