Default 400+ cube guys, what plug you running.

I am replacing the 347ci motor in the 63 pick up with a 418ci motor. It's got AFR heads, 11.2-1cr and 245/260 cam in it. Wondering where I should start on a plug as far as temp? 6? 7?

I don't consider myself an expert by any means, but if it were my engine, I'd start with a 7.

i ran a tr6 and the autolite equivalent in mine n/a and went 1 range colder spraying a small shot. you will get quite a few different opinions on heat range so take my opinion with a grain of salt lol. i kept the colder plugs in (think they are ngk tr7 ie) and didn't foul so a 7 or equivalent range will probably last if tune is good.

NGK TR6 416ci LS3 11.32:1 compression. I ran TR55's at first but they where way to hot and i kept getting misfires. Id start with TR6 with your compression

I ran the BR7EF(TR7) in my 450hp 347. A six just seems like it would be too hot at that power lvl. Im no expert though

So how many of you are reading your plugs? Where is the heat line on the plug?

Good question. I've experimented with different plugs and gaps and settled on the TR6 usually gapped at .035-.042 and the heat line is very close to the middle. I was also thinking of trying the NGK R5724-8 Racing plug at the track to see how it likes it.

This is a good link how to read plugs at WOT.
