Default broken Eagle crankshaft......pics

Saw this on Tuesday.
So this guy drives into a machine shop/engine builder in South Florida and says his car seems to have lost power all of a sudden and there's a wierd noise. He drove it like this for 2 weeks and said he was racing people like that too........lol

How the hell can it stay together and be broken like this.

I think they told us it was a LS3 416ci??????? Not sure. 400+ci something though.

Eagle = junk. The shop said he keeps seeing these cranks break and has no idea why anyone would use them..........

Keeps seeing forged Eagle cranks break? Really? Somebody's screwing up, and I doubt it's Eagle.

This shop said they ONLY use Callies and Lunati....mostly Callies. Never had one of those break or seen people break them on street cars. This guy builds mild builds and 6-7 second drag cars with 2,500 hp. Has like 15 LSx builds going on right now in his shop. He knows what he's talking about. He laughs at Eagle stuff. He said different customers have been rolling in with broken Eagles for years built by "various different builders" and individuals. Just their cranks.

I'd say if they are the ONLY cranks showing up breaking.....its Eagle. Its Chinese man.........

And the engine was only dynoed at 480 RWHP...how does a crank break at that low of a power level. It should last for 1 million miles like that.

The problem isn't the crank . Look @ the main journal and the 2nd rod journals . IIRC the Lunati LS crank is a Chinese forging .

Chinese?
Like Scat?
Like Carillo K1?
Like Callies Compstar?
Like RPM ?

That Eagle crank is indeed broken, but strength inferior to any of the above is not the cause. I dont have any Eagle in my cars at the moment, but they're an incredible bang for the buck. $450 rods that take 800+HP?

It has a pinned balancer so probably a blower deal. We have had several cracked Lunatis from blowers and it just happened. Who knows all that really went on? I don't think Lunatis are crap though. The eagles are not as nice for sure but we probably sold 700 of them and only one cracked and it had a lot of miles and a lot of NOS on that one if I remember right. I do like Callies better though on the cranks for sure.

all i had to do was look at where it broke to tell it's a blower deal.I have seen just about every brand of ls crank break there on blower motors-eagle,callies,lunati.The Lunati cranks seem to be holding up better though.

Any particular type of blower or all blowers in general? Man the more I read the more I realize how happy I am with NA power. So much simplier and seems to be way more reliable. And on top of that I think NA times are more impressive without the power adder. My next motor will probably be a VA Speed built 440-454ci.

Yeah, exactly...a ton of manufacturers get the raw forgings/castings from China. The consumer just never realizes it.

I have seen numerous diesel cranks break similar to that. The reason? Overtightened belts. It puts too much strain on an already stressed out piece, and causes an overload on fatigue. It seems dumb, but all that extra pressure added by a supercharger does add up.

Notice no one jumped up and said I know thats a turbo build. Its not boost related, just how the FI unit is driven.

Interesting you can see where the bearing was spinning just at the crack. The other rod seemed to fair better.

I bet that caused some strange oil pressure problems.

That just scared the **** outta me. I was planning a procharged 416 last year and decided against it. Thank God I did if this is a common problem.

It is not a common problem. Please do not read into this thread that way.

I've seen this problem with Eagle cranks more than any other manufacturer.
