Default L92 w/o ECU and Wiring

What's an L92 motor w/o the ECU and wiring worth?

Where can you get an ECU and wiring harness? I know Mast sells a kit that'll give you everything, but it's north of 2 grand.

Are there any sponsors or others that sell this? can you pull an ECU and harness out of a boneyard?

I have a chance to get an L92 for under a grand and trying to figure out if it's worth it. i want to stay fuel injected, so carbing isn't really an option

you better jump on that steal. that is a great price! May i ask what vehicle you want to put the L92 in? If its going in 4th gen f-body you do not need the l92 ecm or wiring harness. you will just have to get rid of the VVT which isnt hard at all, and get rid of DOD if it has it.

Going into a 69 GTO Convertible. will have a T56 on the back-end.... so I'm going to need an ECU and wiring harness.

I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth it if the MAST setup is the only one, since it's about 2500. For that price, I can get a LY6 with a cam swap and LS3 intake.

I want to keep the VVT and maybe go to a cam swap, but not interested in ditching it. If that was the case, I'd just buy an LQ4 and turbo it.

If anyone knows where to get a L92 or LY6 ECU and wiring harness, please let me know.

Better question is, how do you tell if a motor is an L92 or LY6 or LQ9? The guy says that it's out of a 2007 Sierra Denali which supposedly had the L92, but where are the stampings on the block to tell if it's an L92 vs. LY6?

LQ9 is an iron block, L92 is aluminium block, and if your only getting the engine you should be able to see where it says "6.2" on the block. LQ9 and LY6 will have "6.0" on them. As far as the wiring harness and ecm goes, i got them with my l92 pullout and sold them on here for like $250. Id just keep ur eyes open in the classified section. Good luck with your build.

Do L92 heads literally say "L92" on them? If not, what is their casting number?

A grand for a complete L92 is a steal and its easy to tell visually. L92's are aluminum block and in the bell housing area of the rear of the block there is a big 6.2L cast right into it.

Im doing a VVT swap L92 t56 myself but its a pita to get everything you need. It took me three months just to get a new cam bolt/valve which is torque to yield hence needing a new one. VVT is great but be prepared to have some hassles.

Plus theres limitations on how big of a cam you can install because of ptv issues. For a nice cruiser street/strip car run it. Especially for a heavy ride the VVT will pay dividends down low but if your looking a big cam track warrior ditch the VVT and run a static cam.

They are particular with PCM and harnesses though they need to match exact year and model as you cannot flash different OS into the PCM or they die... Fussy computers those e38's... Regardless I would pull a harness and computer from a matching vehicle at a bone yard and either do it up yourself or get someone to prep the harness for you. The guy involved in this swap can do it and this is a good read for you anyways;

Thanks for all the info, guys. Motor was out of a 2007 Sierra Denali CLASSIC, which is an LQ9. So a grand for an LQ9 without ECU or harness whose history is relatively unknown, I'm gonna pass. Time to find an LY6 or L92 somewhere. At least I've got time on my side (another solid 6-9 months of bodywork restoring this pig).
