Porting l92 guide bulge
I saw a video about porting and it talked about l92 heads (streetkillz.net or something, the video is now gone). It mentioned something about a bulge that you aren't supposed to port out as it may cause premature failure. (Too little material and it may cause the guide to collapse)
I noticed discussion about a bulge in another thread.
Is anyone familiar with this bulge?
I could be thinking of something else but i cant find any bulges in my head.
I believe this is what they were talking about. (top pic and bottom pic)
I just got a set of ported l92s that have the bulge taken out. Is this something to worry about?

Its the intake side you have to worry about. I know Michael At Streetkillz and have personally taken a look at LS3 head ports that have collapsed, due to large springs and big lift. Call the GMPP guy at Midway Chevrolet in PHX, AZ he will tell you all about the write up GM did and why the "AS Cast" was created. here is the pick of the intake port bump. Trick is to have a good lift and smaller spring load. sorry so late...lol

Thought those pictures looked familiar.............
We port the bulge out on our Stage 2 program. Smoothing the bulge out still leaves over .100" of port wall thickness. That's a safe amount of aluminum and none of our customers have had any issues.
Good luck,
Richard

Well not to name the brand of head I was looking at, with the broken spring base....lol I have personally witnessed it, it is real. I will send Mike with streetkillz a E-Mail and see if he still has the picks of the head. I don't know if he will respond as he is overseas at the moment. And I will fuzz out any identifying head info as not to slam any one selling LS3 heads. As problems can happen to all of us maybe the cast was week in just the right spot.. who knows? I just would think it would suck to have this happen to one of my engines.
