Default Best heads

Hey all! I am in the process of researching to swap my old LT1 stroker out for an LQ9 stroker.

The plan is to build a 408 LQ9 and aid it with a D1SC or possibly F1 procharger. I am familiar with the LT1 world and I used to have Lloyd Elliot heads on my all motor setup. I have since went to Advanced Induction 200cc heads for my D1SC'd 396 but now that I have the car down to the frame I am considering selling them along with all my LT1 stuff to do an LS. I'm looking to push this 4400 pound boat (Impala SS w cage, boxed frame, stereo, heated seats, all the weight from the blower/intercooler/piping) deep into the 10's and still be able to drive it 3 hours to the track and back and to work and back. A lot to ask, I know, but I figure if anything will get the job done it will be a F/I LS motor.

One thing I have noticed is unlike the LT1 world, there are a TON of well known L92 casting porters and the masses don't seem to push just one of them. I have seen L92 heads from Texas Speed, Golen Engine Service and countless other brands put out great flow numbers but I am just wondering if there is any one particular porter than you all hold to the highest standard for L92 head porting?

I just want the best flowing head I could get and I want to keep the cost down to around 2k or less. First hand experience would definitely be nice too, especially for those with blowers as well.

thanks!

FWIW: I run WCCH Stage 3 L92 heads on my very mild build 427. They are absolutely beautiful. 577RWHP 530RWT with 420RWT at 2200rpm. Using a veyr small cam for a 427. It would be considered mid-sized in a 346.

I'd contact Richard at WCCH (proheads.com) Only concern I would have if I was you would be the "thinner" decks of an L92/LS3 head for use with forced induction. Mast Motorsports has a nice aftermarket LS3 head with a thicker deck, but you are talking near $3k for those. Either way I would talk to Richard and see what he has to say.

I have heard of issues with the L92 heads for high hp forced induction applications but it has usually been at around 1000fwhp from what I have been seeing. I'm not looking to go that high, I am thinking around 650-700whp (guessing about 800fwhp through a th400/gearvendors) should put me in the ballpark for the e/t's I am looking for. But It is something to consider...not really sure what the point is where people really start to see problems with keeping gaskets in place/cracking on l92 heads, it's definitely something I need to research.

We're finishing up a aftermarket casting ls3 style PRC head very soon. The thicker deck will help to keep the heads in place better than the stock castings. We've made 1000rwhp with PRC LS3 stock castings before, but your getting pretty iffy on if the stock casting wants to lift...
