Are ls1 cams and ls2 cams the same?

Default Are ls1 cams and ls2 cams the same?

thinkimg bout putting an ls2 TBSS cam in a 99 trans am are they the same.... or does the cam sensor locations change

I dont think it will fit but I'm not 100% sure. IF you are going through the trouble with all this why the hell would you put a TBSS cam in. I keep hearing the the torquer v2 is an excellent DD cam, if thats what you are worried about.

Im pretty sure the cam sensors DO change, BTW.

I going threw all my internals in my ls2 so i have all these extra parts... my trans am has some lifter tap so i was just going to swap it and keep it street able

No they are not the same. The Ls1 cam use the cam sensor on the rear of the cam. The Ls2 use it on the timing gear. You can use the LS1 cam on a Ls2 engine, but not the other way.
The Ls2 cam has the same spec as the Ls6 cam

An LS1 cam CAN be used in a LS2. On a LS1 the cam signal is picked up off the reluctor on the back of the cam. On a LS2 or Gen IV motor it is on the upper cam gear. You can put a LS1 cam in and just use the upper cam gear on a LS2 motor and it will work fine. The dimensions of the cams are the same.

thanks Jon for that very simple explanation....I asked this same question months ago, Its a simple question for someone like yourself but a mystery for someone whos only worked on the antique GM stuff like me.
