Default Cam and Engine combo

Now that my cage has arrived and we are working on chassis stuff, my mind has started thinking engine. My plan was to run in the All Motor Class, but I am positive my wallet cant handle that. My goal is low to mid 9's.

Car is 84 Z28 that will have a Th400,9 inch 4:30 gears and LS power and race weight of 3100-3200lbs.
The math shows that I need the motor to rev to at least 7400. This will not be a DD, just a once in a while street trip maybe drive it to work on nice fridays.

So far this is what I am thinking;
6.0L block bored the least amount as possible
Callies 4.00 crank
Callies Rods
JE pistons with around 11:1
Mast ported LS3 or WCCH L92
Victor Intake with 850cfm carb
MSD 6010 running the stock coils.
Comp Cams recommended one of there LSR cams, .243/.259 .624/.624 114
but this cam seems small.
Any recommendations or changes ? Am I even on the right path?

I am trying to make this first engine kinda of on a budget. After the car is dialed in and done then it will time to change a few things and try a single turbo and LSX block and DR heads.

I know this is LS1 Tech but I think you might be on the wrong path.

A BBC will easily fit into a Gen III car and will be cheaper to build to the hp you need and likely be more reliable as you won't need to spin it over 7K to get there. You can assemble a 496 with AFR heads for a lot less than an LS if your goal is 700+ fwhp. If this is not enough, go to a 540 or 565 - cubic inches are your friend here , recognizing the cost will go up.

Take a look at the Chevelle forum for BBC builds. Kind of hard to beat for a low buck race car.
