Default LS-7 cam

Can you use a cam from a LS-7 in a LS-1? Are the front covers different, cam gears, etc?

I don't. A guy with a LS1 wants my stock LS7 cam. I'm trying to tell him there are better and cheaper choices, but hey, it's his money.

My brother has an 04 GTO that needs a new oil pump. I have a spare ls7 cam laying in my basement so I was thinking the same thing. If it will go right in, why not. I got all my factory ls7 stuff from my z06 so if it will work, it would be a cheap upgrade.

My thoughts are that the LS1 doesn't need the big duration exhaust like the LS7 does to match the big flowing heads on the intake side. Plus needing to switch covers and reluctors will add big time to the cost.

the great flowing ls7 heads are offset by the LS1's poor flowing manifolds and exhaust. the split is fine.
