going to the junkyard. What motor?
Im looking for a motor to go with the mods in my sig, but may change some. Im thinking lq9 but may be hard to find. lq4 is an option as well. I have'nt really been keeping up with info on the newer motors. Is there a motor that I can just cam and run deep into the 11's in my heavy vert. I want to weight my options of having a reliable motor put together by gm and cost of a hke build. If i find a cheap high milage jy motor Ill re-use my ms4 cam and springs if there good . If i find a low milage one i will buy a new cam.

Same here,I have called every junk yard in northern ohio and cannot find a lq4,9.I m new to building engines,I have learned a lot about my ls1 but I don't know what would be a good swap to do,I was thinking about buying a new lq9 block from scoogin dickey, and just buying a rotating assembly, any one think this is a good idea,I have a budget of 3 to 4 grand for a block but if I can save money that's always a plus,I would like to reuse my ms4,and stage 1 243s,or should I be looking into a ls2,ls3? I plan to use all my acc. Off the ls1,again if it sounds like I don't know what I'm talking about I don't lol,

You can find you a
LQ4
LQ9
LY6
for cheap, around $800-$1500 with reasonble mileage.... of course, less mileage, usually more expensive....
They have LS2's,LS3's,L92's but they are going to be a little more......
install the cam, follow proper procedures, assuming you have the know how(ptvc check, spring kit, pushrods, lifters, etc...) yada yada yada.......
drop it in and roll....
If you blow it, which I doubt, you'll only be out of $1500-$2500 vs $8000-$10000.... I will will take my chances, as long as they the junkyards keep filling up with the 6.0's+ etc..... I am not spraying or boost, so a stock bottom end is good for me... Alot of guys over do it and forge everything, but if your not using any power adders or trick stuff, just a N/A setup, a stock bottomend would be fine, but its up to you and your intent....
Now if you want something custom, etc... then look into getting one custom built by said HKE or whoever you chose, but for a budget banger, it can be done..... If you got a more time than money...... But if you got the money, knock yourself out...

For those of you who still have a cathedral style intake you might want to look into an ls2 since it will work with with everything you have. The lq9 is 10.0 comp. and the lq4 is 9.4 comp. so that is something to think about with the lower compression in your quest for more cubes you are getting less compression.
The l92 and ls3 motors are great but they have a different intake and are dbw throttle body. You will end up needing a cable driven TB. The cranks are 58X tooth and the ls1 ecm is 24x tooth so you will need to convert that too. Also, check out LKQ for motors.

Another question.
I'd like to use the L92 heads.
The Lq4 as a shortblock is only 9.4-1. Can an L92 head be milled safely to get the compression to 10.8-11? ( probably not)
If not, then It seems the LY6, L92 or Lq9 is the better option....Yes?

Also, all the lq4 motors I can find have over 150,000 miles on them. I would perfer not to tear apart the short block. How many miles are to many if I want to setup a heads/cam + 150 shot?
