I've run the Scat ProComp (poor choice of names for Scat) with great luck. The big end is stroker clearanced, beams are polished, yada yada. They look a lot like the old Lunati Pro Mod. I wouldn't hesitate to use 'em. Make sure the part number ends in -7/16, they do make others with a different design.

I called SCAT last night. The Tech indicated the Pro comp I-beams with ARP 7/16" bolts are good to 800hp.

Took 2 minutes to get that answer, versus what you typed which has absolutely no tech whatsoever.

Not trying to start a debate here but compstar is higher quality than scat (i mean come on SCAT is another word for ****), obviously theres higher quality than compstar also, so theres no need to point that out. i was just saying i would pay a couple hundred more for some compstars.

The compstars are well worth the money no doubt in my mind and would be first choice, but for just a street car the scat will be fine just double check all the clearances and measurements.

I have run the scat I beams for about 4 years without any issues. I used the 6.125 rods in my 348 then reused them in my current 416 l92. Have been over 7,000 rpms many times with both motors. I think they are good rods. Nice thing is I didn't have any clearance issues with them in my stroker.

Default SCAT Pro comp rods + 4" stroke = plenty of clearance

Clearance to LS2 block on #1 and #2 rods.

Fancy camera, no macro lense = crappy pictures.

I looked at Howards also. Their PM rod is far superior to GM stock rod but I couldn't find it in 6.125" length and they are relatively expensive. I wish someone would produce a PM rods for aftermarket at a decent price. The cracked cap technology is far ahead of dowels.

^ dowels are working fine for 99.99% of us...and they can be resized during a rebuild, cracked cap are junk once they're out of round spec.

Thank you all for the support. Clearly, as see in the attachment, this is not a Apples to apples comparison! We are working on a cheaper LS rod, however, with a good deal from one of our many dealers, we are only 250 apart on a H beam!

I don't see why they can't be re-honed then use an oversize bearing.

Make sure the bolt head clears the block without clearancing on a 4" crank. That was one of my criterias for buying the SCAT rod aside from the low price.

The jist of all this I guess is there are lot of us who build 500~600hp motors and don't need the beef/weight of a 1000hp rod. It's the same reasoning I used when buying your LSC crank. I am very happy with the quality. Work of art.
