Default hey guys, new here, looking for suggestions and/or feedback

ive only made one post on LS1tech.com and i didnt get much info so ill start off with another way of making some headway on my project.

i picked up a 04 blazer longblock. i plan on building it and making some decent HP. the catch is that the operating range of the motor is idle to 4500.
the plan is definitely to stroke it most likely with a 4.125 crank and approximately 3.8" pistons. im shooting for 11:1 CR and it should make some decent power. to keep costs down i think ill clean up the castings and get a good valve job on the heads.

this thing needs to be reliable and i havent found the specs i need. i was going to use some mahle cast pistons as no forced induction is going to be used. i didnt find the CR with the proper stroke using the mahle pistons. could someone point me in the right direction?

without giving away any secrets what valve angles are a good place to get a "performance" VJ without sacrificing reliability by wearing out.

as far as cams, i have no clue. help me out a bit.

this will be the prelim to the next motor i plan on building. the reason for the low RPM is because it will be going into a boat. ive found some decent info on building the 5.3 but most is high RPM HP.
next motor will be over 400CI, 9.5:1CR utilizing forged pistons, L92 heads, lysholm blower.

thanks in advance guys. this site is impressive in its knowledge.

also, with a budget in mind is there a place i can send in bare heads to have CNCd? the rest of the machine work will be done at my local engine builder.

Well most won't suggest using over a 4.0" crank in these motors because the piston tends to come out of the whole too far and rock causing oil consumption and motor longevity issues....

Second what do you mean 3.8" pistons??? Maybe we are not on the same page but these are 4.0" bore motors...

i had read where the iron block 5.3L motors had the issue with the sleeves not being as long. i thought the aluminum blocks had the longer sleeves. doesnt quite make sense because the iron block has no "sleeves" per se.
the bore of a 5.3L is 3.78" correct me if im wrong.
