Question Ls3 427 cam

Hi guys

For a 1999 Camaro SS M6 with LS3 block, 427 rotating assembly, LS3/L92 Texas Speed Ported heads

Help in choosing the cam , can I chose from LS7 cams or I have to go for LS3 cams ?

Let's say I checked LS7 Cams

My application is high speed street

I don't have a problem with rough and drivability , it's a weekend car

1- Which cam to go for ?

LPE GT21 , Texas LS7R , LG G7X5 or LG G7XX

The goal is the higher RWHP.

2- I will go for STOCK LS3 Intake Manifold , can I install Nick Willam 102 mm by cable in the LS3 STOCK I/M ??

Thanks all

Talk to somebody to spec you one instead of trying to go with an off the shelf cam. I talked to Geoff@EPS and he spec'd my cam which is almost the same combo you have but I will be spraying the **** out of mine so I went 416 instead. Talk to PatrickG on here or PredatorZ they both can recommend a cam.

Why don't you post up specs for those. I don't think anyone wants to do that research to give you an answer.

239/247 .624/.624 114+2will net you around 550rwhp with those heads and 11.5/1 or so compression ....thats the cam I will be using in my LS3 427...You'll need a FAST 102mm to run that throttle body and make that HP..

We are making 500 rwhp with a similar cam to the one above. You can fit a 90mm T-body to the LS3 intake. We are using the Holly t-body on a L76 intake.

I've seen 580+ RWHP in C6ZO6's with cams only
Keeping in mind that it's the same 427 CID but in LS3

Can I use LS7 family cams ? or I have to stay with LS3 cams?
The cams I stated above are the biggest LS7 cams

I was thinking of .670+ lift to gain more power ................

NON-RESLEEVED LS3 based 427s generally have a 4.070 inch bore and a 4.1 inch stroke.

LS7 427s have a 4.125 inch bore and a 4 inch stroke.

Also, another significant difference between the LS7 and the LS3/L92 is the valve angle.

The LS7 is at 12 degrees and the LS3/L92 is 15.

In other words, you are making an apples and oranges comparison. Therefore, the same cam may perform differently in each application.

The heads are similar enough IMOP That you can compare the engines and cams

They're different enough that having a cam spec'd specifically for the application would be worthwhile IMO.

I always agree that a custom cam is they way to go speced for your app.

Thats too much lift for those heads. Most cams are in the .620's for the LS3/ 92 heads. They don't need as much lift due to the port design. You are getting into solid roller type cams with that lift.

Do your self a favor and call some one to spec a cam to your combo. I used Ed Curtis at FTI

To the OP:

RUN don't walk to someone who know WTF they're talking about. There is a HUGE amount of wrong information in the few posts in this thread.

Honestly, have a cam speced, but if you're looking to pick up a neat off the shelf cam, go to www.engpwrsys.com, and look at Geoff's lineup of Blower Cams in fact! This may do what you like. (I'd stay with LS3 cams for LS3 heads if you're intent is to do it that way.)
