Default LS6 Valley cover install questions

OK guys I have ordered the LS6 valley cover for my lq9 motor and my lq4 motor.

From these install quesitons --> https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...nal-engine-80/

You can see the part about cutting the LS1 block. My questions are:

1. Will you have to cut the lq4 or lq9 blocks?
2. I just ordered the valley cover I read here where on the 5.3 block you have to do this:

You need O rings on the bosses under the valley, or oil pressure will be low.
Or you can tap them and plug them.

Before taking this apart can someone break this step down into better sense. What size O rings would I need?

3. Can I reuse the valley cover gaskets I have or will I need some special ones?

I just put one of these on my LQ4...the new style ('04+) valley cover. I didn't have to the cut the block at all, it fit perfectly. I didn't do anything as far as O rings, and my oil pressure is fine. Also, when I ordered my valley cover, it came with a brand new gasket. I think I got it from GMPartsDirect...

Hope this helps...

It does help a LOT. My lq9 is the newer style but my lq4 is the 99 version
So Ill have to just see when it comes to doing that one. I ordered mine from the same place so hopefully ill get the gaskets too.

It doesnt look too scary other than I see people here cutting ls1s (aluminum) vs the lqx (IRON)...
Im sure ill manage just wanted to see if I could do this myself in the garage or should i take it to the shop.

Sorry, I might not have been clear. I meant I ordered the new style valley cover, for '04 and up LS6s. There are two styles...the new style has the integrated PCV.

My LQ4 is the older style (pre '03) like yours so there shouldn't be any issues for you.

Good luck!

The newer blocks do NOT need to be cut. It was only the LS1 that needed that mod to run the ls6 valley cover.
Easy way to check for DOD, take off you existing valley cover and you see "towers" in the valley then you will need the valley cover with the o - rings. that blocks off the Displancement on demand.
My LQ4 block was a non DOD block so I just used the normal ls6 cover.

PN 12568002 is what i ordered. $55.08 plus shipping. Not sure if its the same that you ordered and the desciption doesnt say if it does or doesnt but I cant see why I shouldnt be able to use my old one.

But thanks Q my main concern was cutting in that bay... dangerous territory for metal shavings taped off or not....

Dont worry, you are 100% NOT going to have to cut anyting.
If you ordered # 12568002 it will look like this. Which is the NON Displacement On Demand version (no oil towers in the valler).

Here is a Picture of what the engine valley looks like with DOD.
The one valley cover being held in hand is the DOD Valley Cover.
The valley cover (under the one being held) with the black o-rings is the DOD Elimination Valley Cover.
Much easier to have images to look at = ; ) Hope this helps.
Also a good indication would be where the oil pressure sender is located at. IF its in the block you need the early one with the notch. If the pressure sender is in the valley cover you would need the newer style.

Please be aware that there are two different bolt pattern covers. The pic in Bigboy's post #7 is the early style, note the "notch" in the rear of the cover (left side of pic) for the oil pressure sender. The pics in post #8 show the late style bolt pattern, that cover is rectangular, no notch, the oil pressure tower is in the cover. They WILL NOT INTERCHANGE!

OK did the install on my vette today... painted a little while I had everything off. Pics I think are in my sig.

On the corvette not sure about the tubing. I have different valve covers too than the ones in the instructions.

My TB has no vaccum.
I have one port from the passenger valve cover
I have one port from the driver valve cover
LS6 valley cover
My fast 92 intake has 2 ports one on each side.
Can someone break down where the PVC hoses go? Also what to block off.

Currently I have the LS6 valley cover port going to the passenger valve cover port.
The driver valve cover port with the PCV valve goes to the port on the driver side of my Fast 92 intake.
The other port on the fast intake is blocked off.

Old LS1 PCV routing. Block the two back ports. Big one on the back driver side, and small one on the back passenger.

Any other info and pics can be found here:
http://ls1howto.com/index.php?article=18

This is my PCV routing with the LS6 valley on my 102 swap. -For now. STILL needs a catch can pretty bad.

The one way I checked my clearance was to place the cover down on the valley without the gasket. If it sits flush without a gap, you're not hitting anything. I did that to check my clearance on mine. (Different engine, but still the same work)

Is the 12568002 the correct NEW cover to upgrade my 03C5 ??????
There was another thread on gen3 internal and the # on the underside
of the cover was12577927....or is that the casting # ?????
I know the old upgrade used an external PCV whereas the new one
is called a fixed orifice restriction and only needs a connecting hose to the
intake.

Default Thanks

From this pic it appears I need to come off the passenger side of the intake into the valley cover. I think that answers my question....Thanks!!!

For the record I had it WRONG I had it coming off the valve cover to the valley cover.
