do i need to hone if i was to put a set of 9.1 pistons and good rods in my 15,000miles old
ls3 so i can up the boost to 15 psi
is absolutely necessary to hone the bores before i did this on such a new engine as i don't really wont to pull the engine out and strip the block
just to do this as i could do the pistons and rods in the car
but the honing will get abrasive every where
i have put pleanty of new pistons in diesel engines without a hone if you are replace one piston in the field

I would definitely tear it down and hone it!

You run a risk of rings not seating properly without honing. At 15 psi you want everything to be right. With the engine pulled and in the machine shop, you can upgrade to main and head studs as well. (line hone needed with main studs)
