Thanks a lot guys. I love fabricating and welding, it's a nice break from the corporate grind.
Ed: Let's talk.

Removing the headers/exhaust from the equation, there are roughly 220 hours in the build with my builder doing 99% of the mechanical work and priming the body before I shot the kandy.
If I went with a crate motor or even just a mainstream top end using dbw with a crate motor controller and used stock Ls7 exhaust manifolds, it would be much less time. It would have been registered and tagged up by now. No doubt. Months ago in fact.

questions: in terms of kits car stuff, the ultima GTR says it has no welding sanding grinding etc involved and any idiot is able to put it together with the most needing done is some cutting out some metal sheets to the right template or something.
What is the deal with this car?

You could build the car w/o welding, but you're going to have to sand/grind on any build, and also build brackets for stuff. But you can get by with just your basic tools (drill, wrench set, metal brake, jigsaw, unibits).
Everything I've welded (e.g., new gas tank) was optional and because I wanted to improve it.

I'm done welding up the exhaust minus the mufflers. I need to mount the rear clip and decide which way I want to go with the exhaust.
I'm working on a jig now for this one to do a header/exhaust kit for another SLC and I have to mount a different tail/diffuser for that one.

Soon. I've been working on a set of headers and exhaust for someone else, so I took a break from my car for a bit. I have everything ready to wire up and start except some extended spark plug wires which are no big deal.
It's going to get worked on this weekend if all goes as planned.

I plan to at least a few times. Mainly to see what it will mph. I'm not into drag racing much anymore.
Interesting you said that. RCR campaigned a SLC in the NASA Super Unlimited Class this summer. That's basically "run what ya brung" as long as it meets their safety standards class.
Well, the SLC:
1) Won the National Championship in the SU class
2) Sat on the pole 11 times. EVERY TIME it qualified, it sat on the pole. The only time it didn't sit on the pole was when they missed being on the track to qualify.
3) It won EVERY race it finished. The races it did not finish were due to engine issues (crate engine from vendor here), or dry sump leaks that caused smoking. Once a new builder was used and the dry sump was redone, it finished every race, and won every race by a WIDE margin.
4) It set the class lap record at every track it visited, and the driver (Ryan Ellis) was barely pushing the car. He didn't need to.
The race SLC was raced with a mild LS3 setup including stock ls7 exhaust manifolds. All race specific parts used for setup or to pass safety inspections are shelf item bolt ons to the kit. No welding, etc. Same suspension geometry, etc.
It destroyed all in it's class. Lister Corvette, 1000hp race Mustang, 2400lb 800hp Porsche, etc. The performance gap was pretty shocking. Most of the cars mentioned have been campaigned for years with a lot of experience and data.
I'm hoping my little street version does well at the HPDE days I plan to attend next season.
I just want to make sure I keep it on the pavement. No records. My engine should make more power than the race SLC did.
