Default Waterpump interchangeability

*Just realized I posted this in the wrong section. Mods feel free to relocate as necessary. Thanks.

Hey guys,

I've got a 6.0 LS2 out of a GTO that I'm swapping into a car it doesn't belong in (Nissan 240sx).

Short of it is that I don't have enough room to put a shroud and low-pro fans behind my larger radiator with the GTO specific LS2 water pump on the car.

I'm looking at notching my radiator support and angling the radiator forward, but I also wanted to know if anyone has used another water pump with a shallower pulley successfully.

Here's a shot of what I'm working with currently.

I found several threads that say that you can't use the Corvette LS2 pump because there is difference in the offset of the pulleys, but I haven't been able to find any other information on this forum or ls2.com.

Thanks.

How about locating fans in front of radiator? Just a thought.

Thanks for the idea, but I am retaining A/C on this car and that doesn't leave me enough room to mount the fans at that point. Sure some one has had a clearance situation swapping these into other cars with smaller engine bays.

Thanks.

I know they are all the same only the snouts are different. The LS3 pump has a short snout and will probably work, but the belt will ride on the outer edge of the pulley.
Go to the auto parts store and buy a LS3 pump (or if someone you know has one), but make sure you can return it for a refund if the belt rides too far out (you'll need the thermostat housing too).

If the belt is too far out on the pulley, you can try water pump spacers to push the pump away form the block.

If you want to use the GTO LS2 accessories, you could try a 2010+ Camaro LS3 water pump. The pulley is significantly shorter while still lining up with the belt on the LS2; it doesn't have a big nose like the pulley on your LS2 pump. This would not work with the Corvette LS3 pump because it is too short to line up with the GTO accessories.

Alternatively you could swap to a Corvette accessory drive including the crank pulley which would pull the accessories in even closer. Pretty much all vintages of Corvette drives (LS1-LS3) would do this.
