418ci 6.0 iron block w/ls3 heads.. cam question
im currently running a 6.0l iron block with 418 ci rotating assy. p&p ls3 heads, port matched ls3 intake.. ive been running the vindicator cam but not happy with the numbers or performance of the car. i have friends with a cam only ls1 holdin right beside me neither of us are pullin.. so needless to say im ready to figure out whats holding me back. last year with stock 6.0l heads it dynoed 440/460 on a dynojet ran a best of 11.52 1/4 miles, this year i added the ls3 top end and went on a mustang dyno and it dynoed like 320/330 ish ran a best of 11.45 1/4 mile. not very happy with after results of some really good heads. so im thinkin its time for a custom cam. any ideas?

Camshaft is not the problem here. You can't drop 120hp & 130 tq from a head swap & get the camshaft to gain all of it back.
Just jumping in & recommending a "cam guru" to fix this isn't the solution at all. That camshaft will make power with those parts, I think you have a mechanical or electric problem holding you back.
Don't go spending $$ on a camshaft until you check everything over very carefully.
We would be happy to help you with a camshaft, but it just won't get us where we need to be gaining that 120hp!

1 who did the tune
2 i would get a cam to match heads i personally am not sold on ls3 heads out performing some nice cnc heads.
3 check your fuel pressure and injector duty cycle
4 i have a 418 ls3 with a 243/247 623/623 112+2 with WCCH 245s and a stock ls6 intake and tb and stock maf and i made 490 rwhp and 470rwtrq with that super restrictive intake setup

I think that cam is making the power it's suppose to, but that damn 4L80E and 9" are power robbing ************* foreal man... A cam might net you some more power and +1 for TSP from me because i'm still on a stock manifold and i'm still doing more tuning for the car finding numbers working out the bugs with a SD tune... Another thing to consider as well is if that motor decides to take a **** you'll need another block because you won't be able to bore it any bigger... I'm putting mine together as we speak going from 4.030 to 4.040 or 4.060 and they told me the bigger bore was cheaper since it's not a custom size, but if the motor ***** i'll need another block... So i went with the 4.040 custom wiesco piston and rings kit $1,000.00 and 4 weeks out and finally they are suppose to ship out next week thursday...

Guys, you're all comparing apples and oranges. The car actually went quicker with the LS3 heads so he is probably making a bit more power. You are comparing dynojet and mustang dyno numbers. They do not correlate. I believe a cam change is in order to take full advantage of the LS3 heads but I would recommend a smaller cam than most. If you are interested in a custom cam, I have some specs in mind which should get you some worthwhile power gains. PM me if you'd like to work on a spec. I need much more information than you've provided to get it done right.
Thanks,
Shane
