Default L92 modifications

Recently modified an L92 to an LS3 intake and replaced the VVT cam sys with an LS3 single bolt cam gear. Having some performance issues and now wonder what else I should have done. Comment on another engine site says you should replace the oil pump because the L92 w/VVT has a high volume pump that overwhelms a stock cam. True?? Go to LS3 or other? what else needs to change?
Thanks for any inputs, suggestions.

What issues are you having? The oil pump shouldn't hurt the cam. How high is you oil pressure? I guess it could cause your lifters to pump up. On the DOD engines the lifters on those cyl. have problems with high spring pressures. Is yours a DOD engine also? Are you still running the stock cam?

I have the L92 cam and the oil pressure is high 80+. I'm thinking of changing to an LS3 stock cam, HOT cam or other. So, will be changing lifters, springs and removing the AFM soleniods along with its valley cover. With those changes is there anything else to be concerned with?

Yea plug the oil passages coming up from the block going to the solenoid assy. with small pipe plugs. 80+ is high pressure for sure. I'm thinking guys are changing the oil pumps to a normal type which lowers the press. some.

Makes sense, thanks...and I'm considering changing the cam and have been told to change the valley tray to an LS2 tray. Guessing that will also block those passsages...???

It will if you trust o-rings to seal off the passages. I didn't so went with the plugs. My ported stock pump with shimmed spring puts out 80psi when cold at idel. (ambient air temp). The pressure then drops down to 40 when warm 200-240 oil temps at idel.

Thanks for all the good info. I've determined my L92 has the LS3 cam and, originally, the VVT. I'm not going to change the cam; but, I did removed the VVT, replaced with single bolt cam gear, and still have the solenoids, tray, etc. (inactivated). The pump pressure is initially high but have not driven the car enough to really get it to 180-200deg.
What I'm understanding from your inputs is that I should keep all or change all. Meaning, if I pull the solenoids I'll need to change the lifters and tray, or plug the oil passage. However, I'm also understanding the engine w/o the VVT will operate OK with the solenoids out of service using the original dod lifters and stock oil pump. Correct??!! Tnks again.

That sounds about right. The dod lifters are a problem with high spring pressures and like posted above with not enough oil pressure.

If you kept the VVT front cover and just replaced the timing gear, the cam sensor may be setting too far away from the "new" gear. There have been threads here about starting problems with this scenario. I'm thinking your engine needs the earlier LS2 style front cover...

I removed the VVT and replaced the cover, balancer and water pump with all stock LS3 parts and single bolt cam sprocket.
Was going to keep the orig cam but have decided to replace it. Thus, the questions on pump change, AFM removal, new lifters, etc.
Also, have discovered some of the rough running issues due to not using PCV valve and not piping in fresh air and bad crankcase air out correctly. Still working on that!!
