Default Any advice on LS3cam choice

Have all the funds for a cam kit, cam, springs, pushrods, ect

But need opinions on following cams as im after something fairly lumpy sounding and makes good power in a LS3.

Have decided to choose one of these kits, the speedinc is the cheapest as its used with pac single 650 lifts springs and can use factory retainers.
Comp Cams recoomended the 228/230 , which i thought was different to what i thought.

Im thinking all cams will make similar power with the comp cam 228/230 being the friendliest on the wear and tear of the valvetrain.

I really after a nice choppy idle and good power in the midrange, without being over harsh on the valve train, i drive the car every day. Any thoughts or comments be helpfull.

TSP 231/236 641"/615 112

Vengence stage III 231/243 .617/.624 115+3

Speedinc SI5v2 231 237 .617 .607 112

Comp Cam 228/230 .571 .573 112

I would use the vengence racing out of those 4. I personally would have Patrick G spec me a custom cam for the same price.

our Stage III has a very nice lope to it but you should be consentrating on more than just sound for cam selection. What scenario is most of your driving? Are you looking for easy drivibiltiy or big numbers? I can provide a few idle/rev viedos and dyno graphs of any of our cams you are interseted in. I can tell you that our stage III typically makes around 470 through a 6 speed in a 2010 camaro. Let me know if you have any particular questions, I'd be more than happy to help in any way I can.

The car is driven daily to work which to drive to and from takes about 15 minutes all up ,drive it around town to and from the gym, alot of stop start, im in a small town,,plus the occasional big weekend trip away. So really the car isnt often on the open highways more just to get from A TO B.
I guess realistically maybe i would want not too much bucking or surging. Car has 3:9.1 gears, so that may help. My thing is as the car sounds abit soft ,i really want a cammy idle, with some good power gains across the rev range.

the 3.91 gear do help. I think you hit the nail on the head with our stage III. It makes killer power across the board (approx 475 hp 455 tq on LS3) and has a great chop. It is cut on LSL lobes so the ramp rate allows for easy drivibility. We have our cam kit plus on sale right now for $1249 which includes cam, dual springs with ti retainers, hardened pushrods, meiling high volume oil pump, katech c5R chain, ls7 timing gear (if your LS3), comp trunion kit, and all the bolts and gaskets you'll need for the swap.

Thunder Racing makes a good LS3 cam that averages 494 rwhp cam only called the TruTorq. Lowest they've seen is around 484 rwhp and the highest coming in at 498. I believe the specs are 227/239 .614/.621 lift on a 115 LSA.

I'm happy with my Comp Cam and associated springs, pushrods and timing chain supplied by Speed Inc.

Specs are 231 239 .617" .624" 113.

Very once daily driver in our Monaro with convertor and gears.

226/234 114 +2 can be tuned for no issues and will have a lumpy idle at 700 rpm if that is what you want.

230/238 114 +2 if you want more power on the top end. Can be made very drivable, but takes a little more tuning skill than the 226/234.

Both can be done on EPS lobes giving ~.600 lift and good spring life for the amount of lift.

wow a vender that will actually tell you what lobes they use. nice to see for a change. i would go with this cam. i have a an lsl lobed cam in my ls7 ground on a 115 lsa and it lopes very hard at idle but the drivability is very close to stock. power and tq are great from 2500 rpms all the way to 7000rpms. my numbers were 554rwhp and 504rwtq. cam specs are close 231/247 but my 1.8 rockers give me .650 .660 lift on a 115 lsa. the low and midrange is very strong with a nice pull at the top too. with a 3.91 gear this thing would be a great d/d with very good all over power and that lopey idle you are looking for. for a harder chop have them grind it on a 114 lsa for you. give these guys a call you will love the results.

unsure if they would ground it on 114 or 113 ? Have sent a cam request to Pat G so interested to see what he recommends as well. Thing is like about the vengence is its a complete package.

I have been watching these guys and have been making some nice hp numbers.
http://www.englandgreen.com/necessary-evil.html

Also those LG cams are very choppy and have been making almost 500 sbe, heads and intakes.

Honestly bro don't split hairs. Pretty much all the cams mentioned would of course be an improvement over stock... But movin the torque curve up or down a little on the RPM range is a matter of preference and how you want it to feel. Everyone has a different idea of what's best.

Secondly, highest HP numbers don't necessarily mean fastest track time either. Just my $0.02 bro, good luck with your selection and please post your decision.

I vote against the 231/239 A few tuners said it would be a little harder to tune and its mostly top end power
