We have campaigned a couple of E85 cars with some very aggressive timing and zero issues this far (touch wood), but like you say there can be knock. Apparently it's harder to hear/identify knock when running E85.

The car this is going into already has a fuel setup to support the power on E85. Plus E85 smells better.

Default E85?

I ran 29 degrees at pick torque and 28 at max rpm 12.8 to 1 comp with NO trace of knock, i seen knock with e85 on an 10.5 comp engine at 28 degrees, here is why, the ECM harness wire was broken off, and the engine ground wire was finger run in, not even finger tight.
any braided hose is good for e85
E85 compatible fuel pump require, like Walbro, Weldon etc.
E85 in my area is $3.19 a gallon, premium gas $3.89
Fuel millage is the same or better with E85, gives extra 40 or so whp and don't stink, plus no need to run catalytic converters, smells sweet.....
E85 in my area come's in at 107 to 110 octane premium at 93

But you still can try to persuade me.... I don't mind....

I agree 100%....and bump the bores to 4.185......

I have a 416 LS3 stroker in mine, i rev it to 7400rpm at the strip, then the valves start to float.
I am swapping the 2 year old Dual Extremes for the latest comp ones, so may be revving it a little harder...

Their M7 454ci short block looks perfect! http://www.erlperformance.com/gm-ls-...e-short-blocks

Does anyone here have any experience with ERL?

how do you figure e85 gives same or better gas mileage?? that makes no sense...
most pump gas is e10 so stoich is roughly stoich 14.0-14.3 , e85 is 9.7, even if you cruise the e85 car super lean like 10.5ish it still will not get better fuel mileage

Correct. NO matter how you slice it, adding ethanol to gasoline will give you worse MPG. It will also make you spend alot more money on the fuel system unless you have already paid for it, in which case you still spent more money.

What happens when the govt subsidy on E85 runs out and it becomes as expensive or more so than reg fuel? The price is already rising.

You are also wrong about any braided hose being ok for E85.
Also not all fuel pumps or injectors are compatible with E85.
Not all fuel tanks are compatible either. Esp older steel ones.

There is no need to run cats on reg gasoline either, but they are still std equip on ALL motor vehicles now. The cop out of not needing to run cats it tired at the least.

It appears you either have no knowledge of E85, only believe what you read on the internet, or have not done any research.

Being stubborn is no excuse for ignorance.

You are right, we've experienced three instances of Walbro pumps failing prematurely when running in E85. For us, running E85 (in both Northern Europe and in the US) is still totally worth it though.
