Many thanks for the information.

Question: Why some say none DOD (ls7) lifters will not work with stock cam, and some even talks about rocker arms springs...etc?

Please clarify.

ٍSince you have it running fine, then I guess you are ok.

All non-dod lifters are the same, LS7 to 5.3 etc.

ok I have an 07 DoD suburban, I had a DoD lifter collapse. And a few miles after the skip started oil pressure dropped to 0. I replaced the lifter with one out of a buddy's g8 and it runs smooth but it pumps up to 20 psi then within 30-45 sec tapers off to 0psi but motor is quiet. What do I do next!?

Okay,,,I have the stupid DoD 5.3l Aluminum engine, had the valve clutter when cold start since new, changed all lifters, oil pump, cam and relief valve in the pan,,tried different oil. Noise is still there but with little improvement!..what's new is the oil pressure dropped at hot idle to around 20 psi instead of 38 psi before the repair!.

What's the hick is going on with these engines?

warrantykiller, check the filter at sender unit...this is the only thing lift for me, dealer say it's clean!!

Well got a phone call today and they told me that my little 5.3 has low oil pressure again. Not sure how low, i think around 15ish to 20ish after it's get hot. Don't see how i put 300 miles on and it's fine then goes back to this. Just dont get it!!!! They say that's within spec but we all know that is low.

ok we put a new o ring on the pickup tube and got about 17-20 psi after 20+ min it pumped up a little bit at a time and finally hit 40+ psi. Insert me doing my idiot dance and going to buy celebratory beers. I didn't want to swap the pump.

i dont know which o ring yet im gonna find out hopefully it was on the reciept. it acted fine for a week 300-400 miles then started tapering off over a few min to zero. let it sit a min and it would pump riggt up to 40 then taper off. i checked for a filter none at the sending unit. mine isnt vvt. replaced sending unit boom. 50 psi drove.great for a day next day. pressute tapers off to 0 again. shut it off and restart it pumps up again. then drive it home and to dinner its fine. next morning drive 7-9 miles pressure drop to 0. turn it off and restart and it was fine another 5+ miles at 40psi like its fine. someone help please. will someone explain how dod actually works.

why does the pressure increase when V4 mode kicks in and drop a little when back to v8? by the way the pressure reacts to the throttle increase after the o ring it never did after the lifter was replaced but before we swapped the o ring.

I had low oil pressure similar to that you describe, with no noise. Engine seemed to run ok, though I didn't get on it hard. Oil pan off, all bearings you could see were pristine. I always changed the oil after running at the track, so if there was any debris in that, I don't know. But there was no debris now, and the oil looked like new.

Finally took the engine out. One bearing was worn; not spun, but worn. Oil was passing through there.

do to me being an idiot I assumed you meant the one in the pump. After a few hours looking around I found this relief valve you are talking about. That's my next test. Do you think I can drop the rear of the pan enough to get at it without pulling the 4x4 out?

pull front axle makes life much easier. i leave the axle shafts in the truck. to save time. but you have to disconnect the pit man and idler arm to get them and the center link out of the way of the axle

Okay!

Changed the oil pump again and the Oring (the red one), changed the pressure relieve valve in the oil pan and cleaned the small filter at the sending unit, nothing changed, oil pressure and the cold start noise still the same.

As for the filter at the sending unit, it's a little hard to get to it but for someone who knows it takes minutes, this is done through the back side of the engine and with the the right tools of course...

I didn't want to beleive it when this was going on with me ... especially since the vehicle seemed to sound and drive ok ... but, it was a worn bearing. You may just have to go in that engine. Sorry.

I bet I know what your problem is. I had the same thing happen to me. There is a screen under the intake valley cover, keeps debris out of the dod system. Clogs up and you get no oil pressure to your sending unit. Had mine replaced, they charged me $700 for the job. Should've done it myself. I hope this helps you out.
