Default LS3 in a Fbody

So a friend of mine pointed me in the direction of another friend of his that sold me a LS3 long block for $500

Anyway, Im picking up this engine tomorrow and I am planning on putting it in my 2001 Z28. Basically whats going on here is... what do I need to know. What is the weak link in an LS3? With the motor out of a car on a stand what would you change out or upgrade? The plans for this car is to be a 500 rwhp street friendlyish reliable car that I wouldnt be afraid to drive back and forth to the track or go one a 1000 mile road trip. If the rod bearings look good I dont plan on pulling it completely apart unless changing out the rods or anything like that is usually needed on an LS3. The heads and intake and everything are all intact and together. Is changing the intake out something that I would greatly benefit from? Im thinking with the low price of the long block i will have plenty of money to get a FAST manifold.

Basically what do i need to do to make a more or less bullitproof 550+ flywheel horsepower engine?

Btw i was told the engine is out of a corvette.

That is an unbelievably stupid low price. Friend of a friend or not, check it over good. The heads alone are worth that.

Keep the stock intake.. The gains with a FAST are minimal, some see no gain. Save the 1000$ and spend it somewhere else. BER has done some nice proven port work on stock intakes for around 300$ if you have to do something with it.

Just a cam only setup will have you very close to the 500 mark. Ported heads would send you over.

Personally, I would do a cam with supporting mods and swap it in.

That is what I was thinking I'll do. I'm just hoping I'll be happy with the power.

If you have only had sub 400Rwhp it will keep you happy for quite a while.

450+Rwhp in a street car is more than enough.

Eh the motor in the car now was 340rwhp for a long *** time then it was around 400ish before it started knocking so I'm wanting a bit more.
