8.1 (496) Gen VII BBC engines are the odd man out when it comes to BBCs. They do have a cathedral-like oval port. They also have next-to-no interchange with Mark IV, Gen V, and Gen VI engines. They use an LS series PCM and coils. They are the only BBC to use metric fasteners. Cylinder heads are symmetrical port design like the LS series (and have 18 bolts). They were good for towing and truck applications, that's about it.
Could it have possibly been a Gen V 454 BBC from a 90's Silverado SS pickup?
Very true BBCs are capable of tremendous power, but the Gen VII 8100 is not the one you would want to use as a foundation. Mark IV or Gen VI is the way to go (or Bowtie, or DRCE).
