The time you spent looking on here could have been used to do it yourself and save you some money to put in more mods. Melling oil pump, ls7 lifters, etc. If it's not a DD and rarely gets driven then why can't you do it here and there? IMO if you can do it then do it yourself.

Car will be basically maxed out in NA form while still being driveable on pump gas. Nothing else really to buy as far as the motor in NA form is concerned. Got fast 102 and nw 102 TB, electric water pump. G6x3 cam, cometic .040 head gaskets,ARP bolts, trunion upgrade, msd wires, c5r chain and ls2 dampener, PRC heads milled to 67cc....you name it I already bought it for this NA build.
Part of the problem besides what I mentioned is that is not my garage...it is my grandfathers. I cant have my car tied up in his garage for weeks at a time. It will take longer than the swaps I have done in the past...have to measure p to v (then what do I do if I have to flycut?...never done that and dont have the tools for that), measure pushrod length and then order them and wait, install and wire the EWP...on and on. Then I am not even sure the car will hardly run after the mods and using an aftermarket 102 TB. Like I said the extra money has made me somewhat lazy...but the biggest issue is that it is not my garage....and this will be at least a couple week process (especially considering my work sched)...and that is if everything goes as planned...which never happens lol.

I can't think of any top notch reputable shop in MI besides Baker. I guess Livernois is good, but their prices are truly ridiculous sometimes. I wouldn't take it anywhere else in MI if I were you seriously. Unless you or a friend have a personal experience with that shop digging into a motor like this AND they stand behind their work. A lot of times paying a premium doens't always mean you're getting better quality work....just that you got shafted! Good luck!

Seems a little on the high side. I'm not expert here, but from my understanding a cam swap is ~8 hours and heads are ~10. So for 18 hours of labor, that comes to about $155/hr labor rate which is high unless you live in a major city like LA, NY or Chicago.
Most shop rates are between $80-$120 so I would think a decent labor charge would be ~$2000.

Higher prices do not equal higher quality. In most cases larger shops charge more because of their large overhead (large building in a prime area that charges more for rent, company advertising, larger staff, etc).
So naturally the larger shop would need to charge more to make the same profit. Nothing wrong with a smaller operation, the quality of the work depends on the individual's experience and desire.

Hell the dealership quoted me 180 $ for changing spark plugs on my 98 s10 the other day .....its a 4 banger. Didn't bother to ask about trans oil change. Ended out doing it myself. Spark plugs, wires, air filter, oil change, trans filter, and oil, for right at about 100.

Around my parts we will do a cam swap for $400 and heads for another $200 so $600 roughly as Zmg00camaross stated. This is not checking ptv or the electric wp you mentioned. It's really not that hard, just a little time consuming.....
