Default Cam Install Labor Cost

Im going to a 150 wet shot, thats comfirmed and ordered the conversion kit. I got a estimate from were i work to get a cam install done, labor they will charge 460-470.00 for the install. The cam and other parts i need would probably run me 650-700 i think. Do you guys think 460.00 is a good price for labor to install a cam?

Default Cam Install Quote

I wanted to replace my lifters and rockers, I have gotten 2 quotes. One for $600.00 and the other quote for $800.00. If your builder is good and knows his engines, I would advise jumping on him with all 4 feet.

That's a very good price, as long as he's reputable and stands by his work then I would go with that also.

Taking the heads off to replace the lifters is a big job, so I'm not surprised by those quotes at all.

Give yourself a big hand, everyone suggested dropping the engine and cradle.
To me that meant raising the car and supporting the weight of the cradle and engine as it came down. After which, a knowledgable mechanic could perform the work. Congratulations, you are good.

I work at a chevy dealer and he is a chevy mechanic all he does is pull engines apart and put them back together. He put together an LS1 a couple of days ago, he does it pretty fast and he is very good so he might do it less then the suggested 15.4 hours it states in the system. So it might be less then 460.00 but will see.

You dont need to pull the cradle to swap the lifters and cam. In fact I dont know of anyone on here who pulls the motor to swap the cam and head. The heads and cam will come off in the car and then you can easily just swap the lifters out. That sounds like a big job but its not terribly complicated just time consuming. It took me a full day to pull the heads, swap the lifters, and swap the cam my first time. Again not hard just time consuming.

That's about what i charge people, but i'm no mechanic and i have a day job, i just do it for fun....so if you have a "professional" doing it, that's a pretty great price.
