Default Time for first 408 engine startup!

Finishing up the final touches on the 408 install. What oil is a good choice to run for the breaking in period? GM HTP Magazine said to run a conventional oil to help the piston rings seat to the walls better and then switch over to synthetic. Any other suggestions/tips before the first startup?!

I'm using Joe Gibbs break in oil for my 408 that I got from TSP. Then I'm using Valvoline VR1 10W30

Agreed, we include Joe Gibbs break in oil with every engine we build. Works very well.

Aaron would you stick with dino oil or at what point would you switch to synthetic?

Unless you run the Joe Gibbs synthetic oil, we'd recommend sticking with non-synthetic for about 5K miles.

Do you guys even suggest switching over to synthetic? I like the idea of cheaper oil changes but want to protect my nice TSP built 408.

AES built my motor and they suggested VR1 20/50 for my Breakin oil and regular use. Non synthetic of course.
