Building an LS2 402...(RUNNING with Video)
#41
Started final assembly last night. Checked main clearance again with my new .001 upper bearing halves installed and now my mains are at .0021. I am happy with that number.
Took it back apart and cleaned everything one final time. I used a gun cleaning kit with brass brushes and cleaned out all the oiling holes in the block and in the crank. Got the crank in and set the end play, came out to .003.
I went ahead and installed the cam and lifters.
I took the oil pump apart to install it per the factory procedure, and boy I am glad I did. There was a lot of crap in there that would have went straight into the mains, So make sure to clean out your new oil pump!
I started with the number 2 piston and filed its rings and installed it, then did number 1 so I could get an idea of where my deck was. Turns out the pistons are only out of the hole about .008! The first shop didnt get that right either, they should have been .007 out when I got it back from them. Took it to another shop to have it re-decked and they take .002 of one side and .004 of the other. It was all out of wack, fixed now though. It was getting late so that is where I stopped.

Got a lot done in the last few days. Spent pretty much all day Sat. filing piston rings and getting the pistons installed.
I got the whole bottom end torqued down, had to use some washers to shim up the windage trey to clear the rod bolts
Checked PTV again and I still have over .100. Also checked push rod length and it looks like I am going to need 7.375 long push rods. They give me about 2 full turn to 22 foot pounds on the torque wrench.
So here is some more eye candy, I couldn't help myself, I had to throw some stuff on to see what its going to look like

So, since I sold my LS1, I had to buy some things that went with that motor. Like rockers and rocker pedestals. My rockers got the Comp Trunion upgrade. I finally get to the point that I am ready to install the rockers and after getting one side done I notice that half of them are crooked! WTF! I bought the pedestals and rockers off Ebay for $30. Turns out that the pedestals are bad. I did not get a picture of them on crooked but it was pretty bad. Got to love GM for that one. Anyway I sourced 2 new pedestals from a friend now its all good. This motor has fought me tooth and nail.
I have all the front accessories on, and the ATI balancer installed. Now I am to the point where I am going to port on the Fast intake. It does not need much.

Yes I do! Just have not had time to upload my pictures. But here you go.
I had a little trouble with my headers hitting the K member on one side, so I had to do a little grinding, and I had to move my knock sensors around to get them away from the headers as well. I was in the garage over 12 hours on fathers day, with my father in law and my kids helping, getting it back in the car.
I have to pull the tank still to install the Racetronix fuel pump and wiring upgrade, but I may go ahead and fire it before I do that. I have to bleed the clutch and the brakes as well.
There is also something going on with my starter, when I hook the battery up she starts cranking! Freaked me out! The pcm was not in the car and the key was off so there was no chance of it starting. I think its in the solenoid I just have to pull it back off and check.
Used my good camera so the car does not look red.
