Default Small Cam LS3 build in a 4th gen

I have a stock LS3 that im getting ready to swap into my 2000 WS6. Mods are a 3600 vigilante, hooker long tubes and a lid. Its my daily driver so reliability and excellent street manners are a must. Thinking about going with the crane cams 1449551 210/218@0.50 .551" lift, I also have a new comp 224/228@0.50 on a 112 lsa that i could use. Ive done plenty of searching and im curious if anybody has done a similar build.

If you are looking for something on the small side with big gains go with the tsp 225/230 .617"/612 It has great manners and picks up about 60+

The 224/228 cam is fairly small even in a LS1. The other cam you mentioned would be tiny and not even worth it. I say sell 'em both and have Tick Performance fix you up with a better one.

I agree with this^ You can get a bigger spec'd cam and still have that drivability that you want

Contact Martin @ Tick performance.

Our Stage 1 LS3 Street Heat cam has been used with stock torque converters in 5th gens successfully with no issues. How's that for mild mannered!

It is 227/236 .61x"/.57x" 114+4 and has a great torque curve as well and is far from a peaky camshaft. It would be an ideal daily driver cam as it has only 4 degrees of overlap making for a smooth ride while still having a nice lope at idle!

I have the TSP 225 in my LS3 Camaro. Runs great and no problem with power brakes. It's a stick. Did 420 at the rear wheels with crappy 3/4 length headers.

Its a waste of an LS3 in a 4th gen if your not going to put a strong cam it it...

How does it feel to know my LS1 puts more to wheels than you do ^^^

If it doesnt require a converter, you went too small

Ummm, not everyone wants to run 9's in their DD. Maybe the OP prefers reliability over that last 1/2 HP advantage...

Lol...Buy a Honda. You can still put in a healthy cam and still have the drive-ability and reliability. I guess I just really suggest he doesn't go too small.

Thanks Martin! A strong torque curve and complete drivability is what im after. Just looking to keep it fun and reliable without having to check valve springs every 10k. The stage 1 sounds pretty nice! Id be willing to go a little bigger too. When i get my 70 stage 1 back together ill be contact with you!

The TSP 225 cam is very driveable. Minimal tuning and the LS3 is in a 73 Camaro. I didn't buy it for the dyno numbers. I made my choice looking for a cam that will out perform the stock cam by a good margin. Have a bit of chop at idle, not much but a bit and still run down the road on a long trip at 22 mpg plus.
I've had the big and bigger cams in cars. They are kind of like a hardtail motorcycle . The hardtail gives you the total chopper expirence in about 20 miles. Same thing with a big cam.
Kind off the subject to the original OP.
