400 to 500 crank horsepower would be no sweat with VVT retained in your LY6 motor. I would keep it. If you have DOD I would get rid of that.

VVt is great in milder combos, like your goal. It is basically a variable cam sizing, based on rpm. Little cam down low and bigger at higher rpm. Broader torque and HP curves. Whats not to like?
It really retards and advances the cam, which is KINDA like small cam, big cam. Thought I better throw that in there before someone blew me out on it.LOL

May not have it as most went into vans and such.

If you go with a VVT cam, I'd strongly recommend doing some serious research to ensure you get the correct parts. There are two different cam cores and phasers since 2007. Mixing up the cores and phasers could change cam timing as much as 13 degrees!

Building a 2008 LY6 street/strip engine also. I am using the Texas Speed VVT 3 cam.
Texas Speed also emailed me the updated phaser tables which I am going to install with my HP Tuners programmer.

Like I mentioned earlier, please make sure you have the correct part numbers. There are different phasers, phaser limiters, and cams for the VVT engines. The 2007-2008 VVT engines could have either of the two and unless you checked the phaser and informed TSP, you have a 50-50 chance of getting the correct parts.

If you look on your phaser gear, the last three digits of the part number are cast into it. This will tell you what cam core you need as well as what limiter kit. Below is a link to Comp Cams' tech bulletin describing the required part numbers.

for reference on finding the right cam core to go with your phaser.

I purchased my cam VVT3 from Texas Speed since they furnished me with the updated phaser tables.

Same here. In my case I sent my E38 ecm off to TSP to get it reprogrammed as I wanted to change some other items as well.

VVT itself is awesome. basically it broadens the power curve giving you a little more grunt down low and a little more top end than you would have with the same cam on a fixed timing set.

TSP told me that I should delete VVT when i told them I wanted to build a crazy stroked/blown/everything motor so i went with a 3 bolt cam.

On a milder build I would keep VVT.

I think it boils down to reliability and ease of tuning. VVT cam phaser is another moving part. VVT also may make it a bit more complicated to tune.

Do a SEARCH for Patrick G .
He can spec you a custom VVT cam for only $25 or $50.
