We have received a large shipment of the newest LS block available. This is the Dart Machinery LSNext block. We have not yet started a build with one of these, but we are excited to get to work on one soon.

Here are some pictures of one that's in stock here, as well as some highlights from Dart. At the bottom you'll find part numbers and pricing. We don't yet have more oil pan spacers or block completion kits in stock for pictures, as we have shipped what we received to customers already. I will come back and update with those as soon as we get the next shipment.

Dart’s LS Next block is the first significant change in the architecture of the LS engine platform. By eliminating the “Y-block” design and utilizing conventional style main caps and oil pans, Dart has addressed the problems resulting from the LS engine’s separated crankcase bays. Windage is greatly reduced, resulting in increased power along with a much stronger main web area.


You'll notice some "odd" differences from what you're used to. Older SBC guys won't find most of this odd and will recognize some things. You might also have some questions, which are quite welcome.

Water jackets are revised.

You aren't running stock lifter guides in this block. LSX guides or tire bars.

These have press in freeze plugs.

The barbell hole is plugged.

This will use stock front and rear covers.

We know how the stock block and parts handled all of the passages under the covers. We will have to get the completion kit in here to see what Dart does in those areas. Especially with the deletion of the stock cam retainer that connected the two front oil passages.

There is no provision for a Gen 3 cam sensor. You will have to run the Gen IV front cover and sensor.

There is no passage that supplies oil to the stock location in the valley cover for the oil pressure sensor. There might be a passage you could drill into, we are not certain at this time. You may have to run the sensor in an alternate location.

They look awesome. So does that pan work with 4th gen f-bodies? Will there be a cheaper oil pan in the near future?

 

I got a big grin when I saw it has splayed 4-bold mains. Retro block..

This should be nice for those building north of 1000hp. However, this block "looks" really heavy (more than LSX). Any info on this?

 

Can't wait to see these things in some serious NA builds. Are they legal in NMCA?

It weighs 227 pounds.

I can drop a head on one and try to get some lifters through the window after LSFest.

For an fbody you'd want a stock pan with the rail adapters.

So to install this block in a 4th generation f-body that already has an LS2/LS3/LS7 (or known differences) you only need the oil pan adapter, maybe different rockers (so the standard morrels don't work?), and need to wait for someone to come out with some sort of provision for the oil pressure sending unit? I currently have a motor with an LS7 block and was sort of thinking about getting this block.

 

When the tall deck block comes out what stroke will this accommodate on a street engine?

 

I'm waiting for the aluminum version.

 

I doubt Dart will even consider aluminum being historically more for drag racing than anything else.

You can get an RHS aluminum tall deck for 3900 on a non sponsor.

I sell RHS blocks, and I'll match any price.

 

The Dart aluminum will be pretty nice for building a standard deck 454 aluminum as long as they can make their price point more competitive than the RHS tall deck aluminum out now and comparable to the price of Darton sleeving + used 5.3 4th gen block.

 

I'll be getting an RHS block really soon. What do you get for one? I want the standard deck, 4.120 unfinished one that's ready to hone.

You called COMP and ratted the guy-out for selling the block for $3900 and now no-one can get it. I hope that you are giving everyone the $3900 price match on the RHS LS Block.

 

Actually I didn't, so I'd appreciate it if you'd consider having a little more class and making sure you know what you're saying before posting such accusations. I've not talked to Comp at all about pricing on these blocks. No one even named the non-sponsor beyond that exact title and I have no idea who it was.
